Hello. I am in some serious help of finding a new monitor.

The monitor must be a 30 inch. Not 27 or 24 but 30 inch! :)
Resolution must also be 2560x1600.

What shall I use this monitor for?

FPS games mainly but also some RTS like SC2 and Diablo 3.

So guys.. What can you recommend me? The price doesn't really matter. I just want a 30 inch monitor that can be used as a gaming monitor first and foremost.

Thanks for your time reading this.

Best regards

I tried some google and I found someone saying that 6ms is quite bad for playing FPS games. It actually got me scared quite a bit to be honest

And that was the Dell U3014

I'd prefer this review:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u3014.htm

They don't test the input lag @ 1080, and they find in game mode lag of ~ 3ms. A frame is just under 17ms on 2560x1600 IPS panel, so you're looking at lag of noticeably less than a frame. It should be fine for even twitchy gaming.

The real question is do you have enough GPU horsepower to hit 60 fps comfortably at 2560x1600? It's rather difficult to do.

There's really not much choice in the 2560x1600 30" space. HP or Dell is pretty much it. ~8ms pixel is pretty typical for those panels. The U3014 does have a game mode that bypasses some of the normal processing stages to cut down of processing time (but not pixel response) though.

To be honest, 8 ms is not really concerning. If you're playing a game at 60 FPS, the frames are going to be on the screen for 16.6667 ms anyhow.

Yeah I notice the game mode :)

It sounds really awesome to be honest!

FWIW my last three big monitors have been Dell Ultrasharps - currently using U2711. I've been really happy with all of them, and their pixel guarantee is the very best. Any problem and they just ship out a new monitor, and arrange to collect the faulty one later on - i.e. no downtime.

Cheers,

Stephen

Where did you order from? I hope you don't have the U3014 problems many others have complained about. From what I'm hearing its better to go with the U3011 until Dell works out the problems. Also there is a model fix on the way. Latest one is 04 and the new one is 05 supposedly incoming. At least that is what I been hearing around the net. The word is if you order from Dell they give the you latest model but if you order from somewhere else you play the screen lottery and hope they are not giving you an earlier production.

Komplett is a pretty big shop, it's possible that they turn over enough inventory so that you'll get a newer/better one. Luckily, you can always return it if it has a problem.

Really?! ... Like REALLY Skott? :/ OMG..
Ordered it from here:

http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=780301

That's what I been reading for a while now. Now granted they are usually saying this when buying from NE or Amazon. As I understand it Dell has to sell the latest revision model. Forget why it is but for whatever reason they have to. I'm sure someone around here can explain why. Mfenn may be right about Komplett though. I couldn't say. Mfenn is a pretty knowlegeable guy. I'm a little amazed no one here in the thread mentioned the well known problems concerning the U3014 though. Hopefully you won't have any problems.

Would have loved the know about the problems with the monitor before I purchased it though. But really, its my own fault. I usually check up on such things; hence no idea why I didn't do it this time :/

I saw on Komplett that it was out of stock a few days before I placed my order. Perhaps I got the new model where the issues have been fixed? As of now I'm writing a mail to komplett customers service asking them how they would address the problem if I should have any.

Another good 30" for gaming is the HP ZR30W. Mine is still going great. Only thing is, the Latest Dell has the USB 3 hub which is a nice bonus :D

Anyways, have fun with the new U3014!

I usually don't pay much heed to random forum complaints about monitor quality. They're usually a combination of clueless people and perfectionists who will blow anything out of proportion. In fact, most of the complaints seem to be one guy posting on a ton of different forums.

If it was just one guy or even two complaining but every forum I go to read about it there are mulitple people complaing about it. HF has a large ongoing discussion of it. That's where i first heard about it back when it came out. Besides why would Dell be pumping out revisions if something wasnt right about it? I'm no expert. I Don't own one but there are a lot of people complaining.

To be honest.. I am quite disappointed / mad as hell with this monitor..
I feel the color is flat and it gives me a headache and it hurt my eyes also, no matter what mode I am in (standard in windows and game games)

I've made 2 videos I would like for you all to watch and tell me if THIS is normal behavior of a monitor?

Skyrim:

Battlefield 3:

I swear to god my old Acer G24(gaming monitor oohh ohh) didn't do any of this?

I have tried to turn off dynamic contrast but that didn't do any good. What is going on here? :O

Don't get confused by my wording :) Use the manual mode(if it is available) and set a constant contrast ratio.

Okay I'm lost.. constant contrast ratio? I tried to go into settings and brightness and contrast are both set at 50. Else Im not sure what you're meaning. However I spend 3 days trying to figure out this problem and im starting to think it's not a problem that can be fixed in the settings?

That is contrast, that's precisely what I meant.Changing various modes affects it dynamically as you already know.So is this the only issue you are facing?
