2560x1050 any good?

As my elderly 1920x1200 monitor appears to be dying, I might get a new one.
I don't want anything high-end, but it would be nice to get something that's at least slightly better than the one its replacing.

What do people think of 2560x1080 monitors? It seems an odd aspect ratio to me, but its the cheapest option that gives overall higher res than my current one. 1920x1200 seems like a dying mode these days, and I figure, if I'm going to lose in one dimension, I'd like to make up for it in the other one (2560x1440 are more than I can justify the cost of).

How do people find that for general use and gaming?

(title should be ...x1080)

If they're good price/screen space, I think they'd be good for putting two things side by side on, but they will eat more desk space compared to how much screen space they add when compared to less extreme monitors. If I were getting only one monitor, I'd definitely consider that aspect ratio, but I prefer to have two because a lot of my workflow is based on having a bunch of screen edges to put windows on.
