256 megs of RAM detecting as 128

I am building a computer and I have two sticks of 128 Megs of PC100 RAM to put in it.
This RAM used to be in my computer and both sticks worked fine together then.

There are 2 slots on the motherboard for the RAM.

With stick 1 in either slot it detects as 128 megs.
With stick 2 in either slot in detects as 128 megs, but put them both in together and it still says 128 megs.

I really don't know what to do to try and get it to detect the full 256 megs as both sticks of RAM are obviously working and both slots are, they just don't seem to work together.

Are they both the same brand? If they aren't maybe your board just doesn't like the other brand and is picky.

They are different brands, one is crucial and the other one I think is samsung.

I was wondering if it was just the motherboard not liking them together, if this is the case then is there nothing I can do?

With some older computers, when you added memory, you had to go into the BIOS, don't change anything, exit and save then reboot. The BIOS would then detect the added memory.
