256 MB SD Chip doesn't work in my camera?

I got one of those deals fr9om buy.com ... $11 after rebate. But it doesn't seem to work in my camera (a cheap HP). The camera detects the right size, and thinks it is saving the picture, but when you go to review it, you get a message to the effect that the file is an "unsupported image format". I tried sticking the card into one of those Walmart digital photo machines and got something similar. It showed the right number of files, but saw the images as an unsupported format.

So, is this a bad chip, or is there some reason why my camera might not support media this large? The previous largest I've used is 64MB. Unfortunately, I don't have anything else that uses this stuff, but I'm asking around.

I did try the "format memory card" option on the camera .... no help.

I don't think it would be your camera.Unless it's asetting you have on.But I really wouldn't think it's your cameras hardware and no way your camera can't support 256mb sd aslong as it supports sd.Why don't you try connecting your camera to your computer and putting a file on it?

Yep, that's something else I need to try. Just haven't gotten to it yet.

Or stick it in a card reader (free AR at OM B&M) and check out the card....Maybe
it just needs re-formatting............Greg

Picked up a free card reader this a.m. and finally got around to trying the card outside of the camera. It seems to work fine in the reader ... just the camera has the issues.
Oh well ... I guess I now have a somewhat clunky 256MB thumb drive.

Try putting some pics you already have on your computer on the 256mb and then try to view them in your camera.
