256 MB or 384 MB of RAM

Now that RAM is so cheap, I've decided to buy some more. I currently have 128 MB, running Windows 2000 on an AMD Athlon 650 with Asus K7M mobo. I mainly visit websites (I like lots of open browser windows), play mp3z, read email, and run some other light apps. Usually I have about 10-25 MB available, with about 48-50 MB serving as system cache. Should I upgrade to 256 or 384 mb, or stay where I am currently? Thanks

I would say stay the way it is right now, since you don't do any MEmory intensive tasks.... save your money for the DDR..

I would say get another 128meg before prices goes back up. Not everyone is gonna jump on DDR for now.

You arent' doing anything that requires so much ram so why spend money for no reason?
Seems kinda pointless to me but if you really feel you need it. I'd say go for it now or you'll be sorry later😉

Do any of you who said no actually use wi2k?
Even while doing simple tasks like using 3 browser windows and outlook express open, I get disk caching.
Get 256 since ram is so cheap.

oh ya.. didn't notice you are running Win2K. YES, if you are running W2K, then 256MB or more is better..

Of course it depends on what you're doing, but it is unlikely that you will use more than 256MB. I'm currently using 194MB with Eudora Pro, Microsoft Word 2000, task manager, Netscape6 (2 open windows), Excel 2000, freeamp, netmeeting, mcafee antivirus, and the distributed client running.

The only way I could see that you would potentially need more RAM is if you are doing some heavy image editing.

256 is plenty. I've tried maxing my 256 system and I've failed.. I've run EVERY damn program on my machine in an attempt to mx it.. no go.

If you run Windows 2000, more memory is better! I currently have 512Mb of Mushkin CAS2 RAM and let me tell you, it is so much worth it. I literally don't get hourglass at all with up to 40-50 browser windows open. In Windows98 difference between 256Mb and 512Mb is not that noticable though...

get the 384

people might say you can never max out 256 so why bother

but i tell you it is so much better running everything cached
