256 mb 9800 pro... when?

There was a rumor that the 256mb version was going to be called the 9900, and have DDR2 memory. But that`d very expensive, so if there was a 256mb version, it`d just use DDR1 memory.

Since the 5900 Ultra is suppose to have 256 megs (The 5900 non ultra is only 128) then it is likely that ATI will release it then as competition.

A better question would be "256mb 9800 pro.... why?". I don't think there would be many non-professional applications (i.e. - games) that will perform THAT much better on a 256mb card than a 128mb version. Especially considering how much $$$ that extra 128mb will cost.

What is the difference between DDR1 and DDR2 memory🙂?

I "think" that DD2 is just DDR1 thats been optimised to run at higher speeds. Check a review of the GF FX for details on it.
