512 DDR3 should be better, letting you use the ultra high settings in Quake4.

Thats what i thought .. that the DDR4 speed would not compensate for the textures stashed in the extra 256 of DDR3 memory between map switches.

quake for allows for use of ultra quality with 256mb cards as well though, my7800gt maxes everything out with 4xaa at 1280x1024

Really? When I was playing Quake 4 on my 7600 GT 256 mb I couldn't use the ultra high textures because the stuttering was severe. Are you sure that the textures are set on ultra high?

256MB GDDR4 should be better,though i haven't seen both the 256 and 512 HD 2600XT benchies for Quake 4 to compare the 2.

Though if the 512MB is cheaper......why not get it? :D :p

Lower power consumption, possible faster texture transition in and out of the ram. Nothing else though.
