SATA1 or SATA2, the cables don't matter. Only the hardware at either end makes the difference; the motherboard and the drive. Generally, an SATA1 HD will have no issues running on an SATA2 mobo. Some SATA2 drives have trouble running on SATA1 mobos; correct jumper settings usually clear this issue up.
Long and the short, get the cables that meet the physical installation needs you have; any compatibility issues you may have will not have to do with the cables.
