250W or 300W for my 1.1Ghz Athlon ?

Hi

I am wondering what to buy... IS a 250W power supply enough for a 1.1Ghz CPU with :

HDD : IBM 10000 rpm 30Gb
cooler EKEL -> 1.2Ghz
CD-rom drive : TOSHIBA 48x
MB : Asus A7V
GFX card : ATI Radeon 32DDR
RAM : 256Mb
floppy
network card

sorry if i didn't give all the needed informations, or too much, but I have to say I don't really get all the subtilities (to be... polite 😉 ) of these power supply things.

Thanks all.

spamboy: That`s not true! A 300watt power supply is recommended, but it is not a must. It`s always better but it is not a must.

I would recommend a good 300watt power supply just to be on the save side.

Edit: If you`ve already got a 250watt power supply then try it to see if it works, if it does great. It always depends on the quality of the power supply. Read the review that AnandTech made on power supply`s.

My 250W PS was recommended by AMD, but my case was too loaded.I Bumped up to a 300W and no more lock up's!😀

jsbush: anything you "need to be on the safe side" you need. That's why we say you "need" it.

When do you need to go with a 400 watt power supply? Is it needed if you plan on running more than one hard drive and possibly overclocking a top of the line athlon?

For over a year I ran:

Celeron 366@550/2.2v
Abit BF6
128MB RAM
V3 3000 AGP
Monster Sound MX300
10.2GB HDD
40x CDROM
4x24 CDR
Two 80MM fans

all on a 100watt PSU with no problems. Anyway go for the 300w.

i used to have a 1ghz amd, 40gb hd, 12xburner, dvdrom, and 6 fans using a 250W PS with no problems but incurred a small 10% drop in fan RPM. other than that, no problems at all. i upgraded to 330W enermax just because it's quieter. that's all.
