2500K to 3570K?

I currently run a 2500K mildly overclocked to 3.8. It does everything I need and I'm completely happy with it. I'm not a serious gamer and rarely do anything that requires a lot of CPU power.

However, I have the opportunity to get a NIB 3570K very cheap. If I sell my 2500K at current market price, I won't be out more than $25.00 at most.

My Z68 motherboard supports the 3570K, so no problem there.

So, is it worth doing this upgrade from Sandy to Ivy?
 
You are, essentially, spending money to tread water... I wouldn't bother. I don't really see any reason to dump a known good chip for very little benefit, if any.

One of the drawbacks to the 3570K was the poor thermal material they used under the IHS...although that shouldn't be an issue for you since you aren't going nutty with the OC.

From a performance perspective, I agree with you. Thought I'd check with others, though, in case there's something else important I'm not thinking of.
 
If you only spend 25$ on the upgrade. Then it may be worth it. A tad faster performance and quite lower power draw that again gives less noise.

But it would be with the focus on the last 2.
 
Don't do it. You'll not like the inferior TIM on IvyBridge very much.
All the 3570Ks I have were harder to OC than 2500Ks, and the IPC advantage is only ~3%.
 
Unless you aim for the 3770K it is not worth it. And that depends on the price you might find one.
 
Not worth going from an i5 to another i5, given how small the improvements were between the two "bridges". If you were to upgrade to an i7 3770K, it might be worth it, depending how much you end up paying.
 
I went from a 2500k to a 3570k 2 years ago, I noticed absolutely no difference what so ever in anything, period.
 
Your 2500K will probably overclock higher than a 3570K barring a delid, wiping out any slight advantage the 3570K might have in IPC
