I remember when Nehalem was first out, they would benchmark faster with an aftermarket cooler just because the turbo worked better.
I have no idea if this is the case with the 2500K or not, just that the initial AT review of Nehalem did show some performance increases with aftermarket vs. stock cooling at stock speeds. They were small, like 5% or so, but still increases. SB doesn't seem to be producing heat in the same ballpark, so it probably isn't quite the same, but with turbo, it is possible to see speed boosts from JUST changing the HSF.
