Planning a new computer. Here are my choices so far for the components I need:
i5 2500K LGA 1155 Boxed Processor ~$195
Asus P8P67 LGA 1155 P67 ATX Intel Motherboard ~128
Samsung 22x DVD±RW Burner ~$18
Antec Three Hundred ATX Mid Tower Case ~$60
GigaByte Radeon HD 6850 $190
Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green 500W $50
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 $43
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM and SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM $150
Looking at ASUS VH242H Black 23.6" 5ms HDMI Full 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor (~$190)for a monitor. Is that a decent pick?
All told, about $1025 for a new computer for light gaming (RTS, maybe WoW and some FPS) and schoolwork. Are these good choices? Should I look to economize? I know that future-proofing is folly, but I do hope for this computer to last the better part of a decade.
1080p, parts from the USA, no brand preferences, no plans to OC initially, buying parts to build within a week or so.
