Got a cheap $50 from work

Has an i3 211 8 gb ram and 120gb ssd

With an msi mobo

Was thinking of using it to replace my 8320 rig with gtx 970

Does the combo still perform?

I'm confused the title says i5 and the body says i3. But yeah 2500k plus 970 is still ok for 1080p gaming at 60hz

Currently have an i3 but wondering if worth it to get a 2500k

1080p is my limit

I am using a GTX 1070 with my 2500k at 4-4.3Ghz for everyday use. It works great but I use 2133Mhz Ram as well.

I happen to maintain a hobbyist channel showcasing some benchmaks of my systems, but the cpu is highly overclocked in those, if you are interested.

Oh and here are the 970 + i5 2500k ones

And you can also replace the i5 2500k query with i7-860 for which I also have many benchmarks for both cards and is closer to a more relaxed i5-2500k.

I should have threads summing up all these runs like the one in my signature, but I have grown lazy lately.

The 2500k was the sweet spot for a lot of folks, me included. Highly overclockable at the time and the best performance to cost chip that Sandy had. All my opinion of course but I used it daily until I upgraded to a Ryzen 5 1600.

If you can get your hands on a 2600K or 2700K, that would be far better.
Either of ya wanna help a fellow out?

If i still had it I would. I gifted the entire PC to my brother. 16 GB ram, 6870 gpu from xfx and a 800w 80 plus gold fully modular psu from seasonic. He got a very good pc for his purposes.
