I just tossed a NF7-S V2, barton 2500+ w/ a Thermalright 947U and a 92mm vantec fan in my case. I havn't OC her yet but she seems to be running a tad hot. Right now as i type this shes at 46C, not that its a concern but I though it would be running cooler at stock speed. Comments?

ya i was thinkin of pulling off the HS and resetting her...should i tighten it down as far as the screws will go and then the springs will keep the proper pressure on the die? Also i only put down thermal grease on the HS do you people slap that shi t on the process or too?

I always apply the thermal compound to the CPU, not the heatsink. The idea is to make good contact between the surface of the chip and the heatsink. Having compound anywhere else doesn't do anything.

It is VERY important to use only a very thin layer of compound. A thicker layer actually reduces thermal transfer. Also, the better brands of compound (Arctic Silver, etc.) do make a difference. Ordinary stuff from an electronics store is usually not as good. The thermal transfer specs for the brand you're using should be on the package. For comparison, check the specs for Arctic Silver's products on their site.
