2500+ bartons

what's the general consensus on this chip-- is it really worth the $30 more to get this over a tbred b 1700+ or no

i want to say yes...

but my 2.5 ghz 1700+ says no...

i'd rather get the 1700+ seeing as the extra cahce does next to nothing

I am thinking that yes, the 1700+ may be a better value, but you may have to spend a lot more money on cooling the 1700+ then the 2500+. In this case, the initial price difference will not matter.

if you get a 1700+ for $60@svc along with a sk7/fan, yes it will come out to the same. but the difference is you can psuh that to 2.2-2.3Ghz as where you would still need to speed another $30 if you want to OC the barton.

won't i need to goto some place like excaliberpc.com to get the 1700 to guarentee getting 2.2-2.3 ghz performance? (nm, i just saw the SVC stuff-me likey the prices) also, i really would like to use default voltage--how far can i get with that?

i can do 2000-2050 on default voltage

some people have been able to do 2.1 to 2.2 on default...

it all varies...

just get a 1700+ and try it out!!!

I get 2.3ghz on less than default :sun:

I just installed a Barton 2500+ (Box) and I am doing 2.2 G (3200+) at 1.675V. Cool to the touch, compared to my 1.4G T-bird!

I am sure that I can go to 2.4 - 2.5 G if I bumped up the voltage, but I have not tried it yet.

OTOH, I might have been lucky with my core.

BTW - newegg -> 2500+ Barton box is $90 (at this time).

Also have a 2500+ barton doing 2.2ghz out of the box w/ no extra voltage. Running at 1.65 volts and very stable. I'm not going to go further right now... don't really need any more speed... and I like being able to do it w/ stock voltage. This is also on an abit NF7-s which I hear tends to undervolt a tad.
