I'm assuming this chip would fine at 266 speeds since it's a 333 part. I only have 512 Crucial PC2100 ram at the moment and to be honest, I don't look forward to upgrading the RAM anytime soon. I'm asking this because I'm going to spend some money today and get a Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro and either an Athlon 2400+ or this 2500+ barton chip.
Mind you, I've got a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP board and it's supposedly not a good overclocker at all.. so I probably won't be OCing unless I upgrade the board.

Any thoughts?

Here's the rest of my system

AMD Athlon XP 1700+ Palomino
512mb Crucial PC2100

will your mobo clock up to 333 fsb? Either way you can do it.. just like memory being backwards compatible with older buses. :)

Yes you can but if you do then you won't be running at the full speed of the Barton 2500+. 1.83 GHz... right? The FSB will be forced to run at 133 MHz, so 133 MHz * 11.0 (multiplier) = 1.46 GHz.

One thing you could do is if you can change the multipler up to near the setting of 1.83 GHz about 13.5 or 14.0.

Second option is to overclock the RAM from 133 MHz to..... whatever it can take. If I use my Crucial PC2100 256 MB for an example it will easily do 155 MHz so that * with 11.0 would be 1705 MHz on the CPU.

If I remember right that Gigabyte motherboard is nForce2? You should be able to change the multiplier and be alright.

Note* My numbers are based on if the Barton is 1.83 GHz and the Barton multiplier can be changed.

Hmm, actually my Gigabyte board is a KT400 with latest BIOS that supports the Barton cores. But anyway, I guess I should go with the 2400+ then.
I get where you're going with OCing the Crucial ram to 155mhz.. I used to be able to go to about 160 with my old Epox 8KHA+. I then went and got this Gigabyte board and it doesn't seem to want to go over 140.. ah well..
I'd get a new board such as the Asus A7N8X deluxe but I really don't want to re-format anytime soon..
