2500 Barton run cooler then a 2200 palamino?

In my secondary comp I have an old 2200 that I think is a palamino. I can check (palamino's have a larger die right?) but I'm pretty sure its a palmino, this thing runs 50C@idle with an slk900 heatsink w/medium speed 80mm fan on it. Did they make 2200 palaminos? or was the 2100 the top end...? Anyway, the computer is a bit unstable, I had a 1800 palamino in it before I upgraded the primary comp to A64 and with the 1800, never had a problem.

So my question is, will a 2500 barton run cooler then a 2200 palamino? what about a 2200 tbred? are there any good and quiet hsf's for socket A cpu's?

Sorry for my ignorance, I've been away from computers for about a year, just getting back into them.

Yeah, the Bartons should definately run cooler than chips using the Palomino core. I am not sure about the difference in chips between Tbreds and the Bartons, though.

It will probably run a little cooler.

But also remember, even if your CPU temps get up to 60C, that shouldn't be causing the instability. I highly doubt that temperature is your problem. Other things to check are stuff like the powersupply. It could be that it doesn't have enough juice to power the 2200+.

Here's the system:

ABIT NF7
512 MB PC2700 (Micron/Crucial) CAS 2.5
PNY GF4 Ti4200
ATI PCI TV Tuner
IBM 30 GB HD (7200 rpm)
Firewire PCI card
CD/Floppy
2 80mm Case fans
Antec PS 330 watt

Only time I have trouble is when the TV tuner is going, maybe I need some PCI adjustment or a driver upgrade? Whats happens is just a normal crash, comp will reboot occassionally just like if I had hit the reset button. Maybe the GF4 doesn't like displaying an ATI TV tuner .

Only reason I blame the cpu is cuz the system was fine with the 1800 paly.

Okay, the 2100 was the fastest Palimino made, so your 2200 is a T-bred. The Barton's have very close to twice the die size of a T-bred, therefore, they are easier to cool, and will run cooler with the same heatsink.

All of this ^, plus the newer chips tend to run at a lower heat output for comparable performance.
