2500 barton overclocking issues

I posted this in the SFF forum but got no response, I was real sure where to ask this at so I'll ask here too.

I decided to see how the temps would do if I overclocked my barton in my SN41G2 V3 shuttle. But when I did, the CPU showed up as being 1100 mhz. So I went and changed everything, and now it doesn't go up or down, no matter the settings that I use. I cleared the CMOS hoping that would help, but it did not. Anyone have any idea on what the problem is?

Is this a mobile barton? Did you try to adjust the multipliers? What is the FSB set to? Seeing as how the speed is 1100, and the default multi on the desktop Barton is 11 that yields a FSB of 100 MHz... so set your FSB back up to 166 and you will be running 2500+ stock. Increase the FSB to 200 and bump the voltage a hair and you will be running 3200+ stock. I think that is your problem...

This is a deaktop 2500+ barton. I adjusted the multipliers, increased voltage on the CPU and ram but the speeds still stay the same no matter what i change it to..

you can't adjust the multipliers so don't bother (the chip won't accept the changes) leave the voltage at 1.65 or 1.55 whatever is stock for that chip.... and hmm, you did change the FSB but it had no effect.... do you have a buddy with a Barton that you can do a swap to see if the problem persists or not?

Since its a desktop, its unlikely the multi can be adjusted. Only cpu from b4 week 39 of 2003 have an unlocked multi. Typically, the mobo will let you adjust the multi on these newer chips, but the adjustement wont stick, it stays at "11'

You need to change, in BIOS, the CPU's FSB clock to 166mhz. Sounds like you left it at 100mhz.

I changed it to 166mhz, even tried 200mhz and the CPU still stays at 1100. I had it to where it would auto adjust the memory according to the CPU's FSB and it went from 100mhz to 166mhz. So that's working, but my CPU still won't.

I looked up the manual for your mobo. Just to confirm: in BIOS, under "Advanced Chipset Features", you have "FSB Frequency" set to 166?

(Sometimes you need to change the setting (and exit & save) a couple of times to get it to "stick")

If you cleared the CMOS the old way (removing the battery), try the way mentioned in your manual - Unplug PSU from wall for at least 30 seconds, plug back in, push & hold the "reset" key, then hit the power button. When it starts the POST, hit "delete" key to enter BIOS. Select "Load Defaults", then save and exit.

Only other thing I can think of is running WCPUID or Sissoft Sandra etc to confirm BIOS is reporting correctly the CPU's speed.

Good Luck with it.
