here's my setup

Abit NF7-S
2x512mb Corsair TwinX XMS LLPT v1.1 rated 2-2-2-5
barton 2500+

If i oc to 2.2 on stock volatges and 2-2-2-5 i fail prime95 after like 10 minutes. at 2.1, 200x10.5 I can run prime overnight. If i want to get 2.2 200x11, what should i do? If i up the vdimm can i keep my timings at 2-2-2-5, or should I just loosen up my timings?

Also, sould I not try to go any higher with the stock hsf?? Thanks

Ya those are some pretty tight timings..

Try 2/3/3/6 or even 2/3/3/5 the performance loss will be almost NOTHING.

Before you drop the timings, bump your Vdimm to 2.8V and try again.. And don't be afraid to give your Barton a 5% voltage adjustment...

Don't get caught up in the stock voltage mayhem..

;)

yeah try upping the vdimm and see if that helps
just raise it a little not much
cause it sounds like your almost stable

I think your memory is probably fine. You just found the limit of your cpu with the stock heatsink and voltage. I would run Ras to Cas at 6 or 7 though for better stability.
The $19.95 slk-900 deal is back at SVC with coupon code. That would work wonders for you. You have a good cpu and great ram.

Sounds like you need more Vcore to me...

My machine is super stable at 200x11 with memory timings at 11-3-3-2.5 (Can run both Prime95 and 3dmark03 simultameously). At 210x11, or even 220x11 system willpost and boot to windows...however immediate fail in Prime 95...I just have a feeling that this machine can go higher if I knew what to do.

Voltage: cpu=1.75, memory=2.8, chipset=1.7....temps are 26 nd 45 under load

Any suggestions , or should I be happy with 2.2mhz?? (That's all I wanted at first, then the BUG bit!!!)

PS: 3dmark03=5633....any good?

OC now 2.3mhz (200x11.5) cpu=1.8, mem=2.9, chip=1.7...temps seem ok...26, 46.5 under load

I disagree. I think the loss in performance will be significant though not in all applications of course.
In either case if Prime95 fails that is not a stable system.

I have a Barton 2500 in my asus A7N8X rv2. With stock cooling i get 45 degrees celcius idle! I have all settings at default and my case open and a back fan on. What might be my problem. My system boots at 3200+ speeds but crashes under any games within a minute or so.

What might I be missing?

cool, but what do u think the temp problem could be? Can i just attrib that to the stock cooling? at 3200 its now stable but temp is at 50C...idle....

If that's the diode temp I wouldn't worry.

UPDATE: I jus bought a THermaltake SLK-700 with a 74in Thermaltake 8025T fan. Temp's are no better and when I touch the heatsink, its not warm at all. I even used ASIII paste this time. What could be the problem? Should I just buy a new heatink altogether?

I've been runnin 200x11 with 2-2-2-5, vcor 1.7, vdimm 2.7, and i just ran prime95 for 9 hours until i stopped it. according to hardware doctor, (don't know where its taking temnps from) but my cpu temps were 50 c and my sys temp was 32 c, this was after the 9 hours. I just put in 2 coolermaster leds fan in the front, and two more in teh back of my cheiftec case, maybe they helped out teh temps. still using stock hsf.

Update: I got it running at 2145mhz (XP3200+) at 1.7vcore 195x11. My temps are 46C webbrowsing and 50C underload. I guess I'll settle for that, for now...

my pcmark scores are
CPU score: 6508
Mem score: 5649
HDD score: 1319

I have above cpu
512mb Buffalo tech w/Winbond chips PC3200
asus n7v8x-rev2
AlbaGF4 Ti4200 128mb
420w Generic PS
aforemenitoned cooling setup
160gig Maxtor 8mb cache HD

How do my scores rate?

How is your case cooling?

Honestly I don't see much of a performance improvemant with faster timings, so I would loosen those up and bump the FSB up a few more MHZ.

And why use the stock hs/f? You can get an SLK-900 for like $20 at svc...

I seem to have a silly problem.
My sys is as follows

A7N8X-DLX
Barton 2500+
Corsair TwinX512A3200LL
Thermalright SLK900A with Panaflo 92mm fan
Antec SLK3700AMB case with 350W Smartpower PSU
80G Maxtor Ultra HD
and other components
W2K

I tried bumping the FSB to 200MHz and multiplier to 10, 200x10 = 2000MHz... but the system fails prime95 CPU torture test within first step. I tried bumping the Vdimm to 2.8V... no change, failed again. I tried increasing VCore to 1.7v, again, no change, fails prime95. Meanwhile, my CPU temps are at 38C, MB at 27C.

What should I do? Is it the PSU? 350W too low to attempt any OC?
Or is it something else?
Also, my RAM timings are at 8-3-3-2.5T

The only instance the system seems to run prime95 fine is on stock 166x11 setting.
Suggestions pls?

Change ram timings to 2-3-3-7. Keep ram voltage at 2.8V. Up the vcore to 1.75V.

I have my ram timings at 2-3-3-7 also. With my case closed its 50C with it open its 47C- both idle, jus add 3 degrees for load temps. I'm also going to try to install a fan on my northbridge also.

Of course the performance loss won't be 'significant'. Raising the timings one notch barely makes a difference at all, and is more than worth it if it increases stability.
