Got a quick question...

I've got the Newegg Barton 2500+ and was able to run it at 200*11 with no problems and at stock voltage. During boot up it shows as a 3200+ and even in Win XP Pro it shows as 3200+...but right below it says its at 1.83Ghz. In case your wondering where I'm getting this from. Right click on My Computer and then click on Properties....thats where its telling me. Shouldn't it say its at 2.2Ghz????

Also...I'm running 2 sticks of 512mb OCZ PC2700 with heatspreaders on it....I can't get the stuff to work above 133...shouldn't that stuff run at least at 166????

My board is an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe rev 1.06 with 1003 bios.

get cpuid and check with it.

run memtest and check to see if it passes. be sure to relax your timings to normal. try it at 133. then, with relaxed timings and maybe a bump in vdimm, try at 166.

Googoocluster...it is not bad to run at 2.7v on that RAM as Corsair warranties up to 2.8v(correct me if I'm wrong though..)....Jake, also try doing some video encoding to test for stability as it has been a hot topic around here stating that Prime95 can sometimes miss a problem.

Can you tell me what I should relax it to. I'm just smart enough about this stuff that I'm dangerous!!!:D

going by my epox bios, there is a setting in the ram timings that goes from normal to turbo (with fast and fastest in the middle..... which kills me because fastest, by definition alone, should be fastest... but enough with my anal-english-degree-peeves).

when you go from normal to turbo, the BIOS automatically changes things like CAS, trp, trcd, cmd rate, etc. so, by making sure its set to normal or default or whatever is slowest, will ensure that you are able to hit the highest FSB possible. once you hit where you want, THEN speed up the timings to something higher, step-by-step, until all is well.

i have run XMS @ 2.8 and 2.9 and it is perfectly stable

OK...I ran WCupid and it says I'm running at 1.83Ghz....yet I went back into the bios and double checked and it was running at 200 *11. I'm very confused:confused:

Sound like it may be showing 200x11, but it's actually running at 166x11. What does Wcpuid or CPUz say about the FSB speed?

Got me a week 19 AQXDA!

Running it with the retail HSF (LOL) and it's already hit 2800+ (12.5 x 166) at stock voltage. Kind of surprising that the temp is only at 56C under load. Time to slap a real cooler on this sucker and get me an nForce2 instead of this KT400 so I can try this puppy at 200FSB.

I just KNOW there's lots more under the hood!

Hey Tanclearas i have a KT400 based mobo (a7v8x; other rig) it's a good ocer with all the goodies in the bios but have you tried to reach higher FSB s with it?

stockjock> what's your mobo plz?
This is getting intresting...

hmmm could be a bios prob coz rev 1.06 doesn't "officially" support 400fsb (rev 2.00 does)
Marketing move or not i've known peeps who noticed better performance with the 1004 bios...
Good luck! i hope that's the prob!

:)

stockjock, i dont think its the bios. that board supports 2500 bartons (which are 333fsb not 400... the 3200 is a 400) right outta the box.

i'd clear cmos with the jumper and start over. also, check any other jumper. my epox board has a 133/100 jumper thats set to 100 default. yours might have something similar.

if you have any gremlin spray, use it in the case when you've got it open.

Thanks for those opinions guys...I've cleared the CMOS so many times I can find it in the dark now...lol But I will look into the 133/100 jumper thingy

Dustswirl, I'm going to put a better cooler on first, then ramp up over the next few days to see where I end up. I have the feeling that 3000+ is a pretty easy target considering I've still got it at stock voltage and had Prime95 running all day/night without any errors.

Just wish I had the 1/6 divider...

I will try a new bios....I have tried a couple of times to update and for some reason it won't take...I hate ASUS' flash instructions page. They give you all the instructions for AFLASH.exe....but of course the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe uses AWDFLASH.exe and the flash is totally different from AFLASH. But I will not give up!!

OK...tried to flash again...no go...I tried the "ALT" + "F2" method and it hangs and never goes to the AWDFLASH. So I did the boot disk method and I get some checksum error...I'm very aggravated right now!!!!:frown:

Flahing with awardbios ezflash (alt+F2 and a floppy with the new bios and with boot detection set to floppy first etc etc etc) on startup is much better then aflash! ;) follow the manual mate :D

Dustswirl...can't thank you enough...the reason ALT F2 wasn't working is because I never had the floppy in. Worked like a charm and now I'm showing correct numbers...SEE!!!

Thanks again!! Now to get the memory figured out...might just have to go and buy some Corsair! But you'd think that OCZ PC2700 should be able to do 166 and all I can get it to do is 133

Hmmm memories...OCZPC2700 is rated 2x166~=333MHz(DDR) should work on 166 but since you have your Systemclock @ almost 200 hmmm difficult task... if not impossible unless you try to match the FSB's speed with the mem's...a compromise i mean

cheers
