"$250/mo for health care for my family? Are you kidding me! That's almost as much as my boat payment!"

Subsidized Health Care: a view from the exam room

Really interesting article about a woman who had a surgery practice in California, talks about a woman who came in who was high risk for breast cancer, wouldn't pay $90 for a subsidized mammogram, but paid $400 for Botox. I don't know if these are rare cases or not or if this is very common across America. I know until recently I didn't have insurance for myself, now I pay $80, that's about what my iphone cost me every month. So yah I was part of that problem too. Should we expect American's to be responsible for themselves again or are we too far along in our nanny state that it's just not practical?

I find your thinking on the subject convoluted. What exactly do you consider to be "responsible" and how does Socialized or Universal Healthcare affect the "responsibility" of Individuals?

Well My wife and I had a choice, either get that new Lexus or get Health Ins. We chose the latter and bought a used Dodge:frown: Of course if ours only cost $80 a month we'd have that new Lexus:shocked:

We live in a society that trains us to hate ourselves so that Botox is an answer to our misery. Keep buying shit so you feel better. Well it doesn't work. I own everything I ever wanted and I'm still a miserable fuck. But it could be that I'm fucked because my eyes are beautiful naturally and don't need Botox.

I would like to think our government can deal with society in a way that's better than punishing the whole class because of a few retards. But yes, there a lot of retards in this class. And some are really, really retarded.

So there are scumbags in the world. Yep, let's just keep the broken system. Don't want to potentially help them.

The wife and I pay almost $500/month to cover the two of us for medical insurance. I would like to see a 'change' that lowered our premiums, but from what I understand my 'premiums', 'taxes' are going to go up dramatically to pay for those who do not want or can't afford insurance.

The article points out flaws with offering government-funded health insurance. You can't deny that there is something inherently wrong when people who fall into these low income plans suddenly have the ability to buy expensive electronics, SUV's, and chrome wheels - definitely luxury goods which don't speak to a person who is "low income" at all. These people lack in financial management skills, but why do people who manage their money better have to pay for idiots who fall under low income plans?

Is there a place where I can sign up to be anti-UHC and get a paycheck? I mean..they must be paying some of the people around here for spreading this BS.

That's because we don't practice eugenics and suffer from dysgenics. Can you say "Clevon"?

I can say Clevon, but I don't know how they pronounce it over there.

At least these people naming their kids Dasani and Aquafina picked something everyone can pronounce!

How dare you sit there all selfish and arrogant with "I" this, or "my" that!? How dare you deny the Government its right to take your money and give it to who it sees fit in the name of The Greater Good!? How dare you question their benevolence!? What makes you so special that you get to sit there and think you should keep your own hard-earned money when there are others who are less fortunate than you who have a right to your money instead?! How dare you!!!? Even if your own premiums double, or triple, you do not have the right to complain about it when there are others who the Government says need it more!

Shut it!!! You need to just hand over the money when they tell you to, and then you need to go sit in the corner for a while. While you're sitting there, you need to be thinking about how evil you are for wanting to keep so much of your money from those whom the Government has deemed need it more than you! Get to it mister, and don't come out until you've figured out how, why, when, and where you went wrong!

It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about all you selfish people who think you should just be able to keep the money you supposedly "earned"!

GrrrRRRR

It's right wing BS to attempt to sway public opinion. Picking a few morons when they already got called out about faking brain cancer.

This has been my argument from the onset. We have folks who will put their families in jeopardy with mortgages they can't afford, cars that are priced out of their range, eat out every day, but will cry "Save Me" to the government when it comes to paying for insurance. People's priorities are fucked up.

One of the first Moonbeam statements I've agreed with.

And to take this further, why has the government pushed spending on cars and other material items recently instead of healthcare? Why does it matter that healthcare is 16% of our GDP? It's an industry like any other, providing jobs for millions spread among many vertical and horizontal lines. Again, our priorities are fucked.

What a load of complete fucking crap. How do you think private insurance companies exist? That's right, by subsidizing those who are sick with the premiums of those who are healthy. How does that sound to you? It's called managed risk, and without it private insurance (or any insurance for that matter) would not function.

After personally suffering the effects of greedy insurance companies, I'll damn sure take the government alternative, because at least its sole existence doesn't involve profiting off of my misfortune.
