currently OOS

Only online. You can check your local stores for inventory. Mine show low inventory, which means they may or may not have any. The coupon is good in-store.

I realize this was $50 more but this machine was a great deal when it was available. I picked up 2.
eMachines dual core (T4400) laptop $298 @ WalMart 2/28
T4400, 3gb ram, 250gb hd, 8x dvd, 15" lcd, win7.

I know some people picked up several. You might find one on Fleabay.

Just had a loltastic time buying this laptop from the Staples on Rt. 1 in Princeton, NJ.

First, I checked the in store availability on the website and confirmed availability by calling the store. I didn't have them hold it because I was going to go pick it up right away. I get there and the laptop is not on display (I wanted to just point to the machine and say 'get me that one') so I gave the sales guy the model number, which he had to look up online (885631 is the right SKU).

He tells me that they have it, but ones they have may be on hold for other customers, and he has to check. In the 15-20 minutes it took them to figure out that they did indeed have a model they could sell me, they assaulted me with the most obnoxious Service-Plan/Software upsell I've ever been through. After I had told them no several times one of the sales people actually pretended to call her manager and say things like "Yes, I explained the price discount to him, but he still won't take it, what should I do when he comes back for service and wants the protection because I know it's gonna happen." They also said things like 'well you have a $50 coupon so it's like getting the $60 service plan for $10!' (and then they didn't ring up the coupon when they were cashing me out, I had to tell them to do it)

I basically stayed pleasent the whole time, smiled and thanked them as I left, but I'll never go back there again. JFC

I understand that these high margin items like Service Plans subsidize the low cost of the item, but what's the point of badgering the fuck out of the customer when he's made it clear multiple times that he's not interested?

But yeah, they're still out there for anyone that feels like putting themselves through the ordeal...

Edit - TL DR:

Deal is legit
Some salespeople are jerks

my buddy in Cleavland had a similar deal, the tried to sell him a netbook over this PC, pretty funny, i did opt for the 2yr $59 plan, i will have them replace the battery next year.

i worked for best buy for a while and we got plenty of margin killers, my bosses philosophy was, there advertised, get rid of them , pile some other low end shit next to them and hope someone takes a cheap bag with it or something.
but if not who, cares get rid of them

You bought a $60 plan on a $250 laptop? I don't know how much the battery costs, but I'm taking this laptop to Bogota (http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2090145) so I wanted something I could lose without it being a big deal.

Well your experience was still better than mine. Their online status for the Beloit WI store showed low stock so I run over there and it's not on display like you said. Get a sale associate over and ask for one which he proceeds to tell me they are OOS but he can order me one. So I ask if I can still apply the coupon along with ordering one and I had him the coupon and he goes "oh no, we can't accept this for this model because it's a discontinued item". I then say "Discontinued???", where does it say it's discontinued. He points to the sale sign that says "Instant savings" and in the bottom left there is a small letter and he says that means it's Inactive. Now mind you the letter is a "P", and I look at another sign and it's an "A" which he says means "Active" and another one has an "I" which means "Inactive". So I point blank ask him what the hell does "P" mean if a second ago you just said this was "Inactive/Discontinued" and he says "P" is "Promotional". WTF?
How the hell is promotional the same as discontinued.

To say the least I did not get one and will be calling Staples direct to find out what's going on.
