$250 - 300 bucks for HDs

So yeah I have that much set aside for the comp I'm trying to build and was looking at different combinations. It will be mainly a gaming rig with a decent amount of storage as well. I was thinking about one of each of these:

WD Raptor 74GB ($140)
WD Caviar SE16 250GB ($110)

but if two Raptors RAIDed would be way better I could be fine with ~140GB. (Or even 1 of those new 150GB Raptors if it comes in around $300)

Also, if I went with this, what programs should be on the Raptor and what programs should be on the storage HD? It seems obvious my Audio/Video files are on storage and the OS is on the Raptor but for Games, Office Applications, Burning Software, Pinnacle, etc. I'm not sure.

Thanks for the help

No need for Raptors in a RAID 0 config... See here.

Use a single Raptor for your OS and apps/games, and the storage drive for all data.

This thread is going to turn out ugly. Anytime anyone propose on buying a raptor, you'll get a lot of disagreement. But my opinion is you will not need RAID 0, sounds like you're just a typical home user. Go with 1 raptor, for the speed, and another one that's at least 160GB. Reason you go one raptor, so you don't install that many junk that will slow down your OS. Seems like you hade a resonable choice OP.
