Torn between these 2 monitors as far as a upgrade from a 19'' 1280x800 t.v

QNIX QX2710 LED Evolution II 27"

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=27''_monitor-_-9SIA4JH1GM6846-_-Product

Acer G257HU smidpx 25" 4ms

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...728&cm_re=acer_monitor-_-24-009-728-_-Product

Both these look good,Acer is a bit known over the Korean slot machine panel. My biggest worry is how small 1440p would be on a 25'' but i really haven't found much user experience with the G257HU.PPI would be awesome but i haven't found much in the way of experience with this panel outside of Newegg/Amazon reviews.

On the other hand, the above linked 27'' appears to have a reputation at least from that seller.I know people do love the U2515H from Dell but that is in a price range i couldn't afford if i wanted to.

What do you guys think?I am mostly concerned about gaming on it,but text size and usability is important too.Been using some pretty garbage panels over the years and want to treat myself to what is finally affordable options.

Both look like a solid deal for the money. 1440p on a 27" panel just feels right to me personally, but my only experience with 1440p on a different sized panel was a 32" and the resolution felt way too low relative to the screen size.

I know it is only 1080p, but for the same money you could also get an Asus VG248QE (or the BenQ equivalent) which supports 144 MHz refresh rates out of the box.

I bought that QNIX a few months ago instead of that same Acer mainly because it was $200 + $20 in newegg points at the time. For ~$50 less it was a no brainer. It has/had a chance to overclock, VESA compatibility (stand on both is terrible, though I've never switched it I like the idea).

Mine got to 96hz easily which is really nice, don't need a killer rig to keep up with it. No issues so far, although I suppose there is always a chance I turn it on tomorrow and its dead.

I was intrigued by the 25" 1440p DPI because I really wanted the 'retina' look, but I think 1440p on 27" still looks really nice. Definitely sharper than 24/1080p imo. And the colors of the IPS panel compared to my old TN is night and day. Looks GREAT once calibrated.

If they were the same price, it would be a tougher call. I guess since I'm happy with my QNIX I would say go for that. However if I got some dud panel that so many people complain about I'd be saying the opposite. Its a gamble!

I have the original Qnix as sold with the L02 panel a couple years ago and like it. But over the last 18 months or so, Qnix switched panels to a different PLS version (L07) which is not as good (less color space/vibrancy, slightly washed out vs original). Occasionally they may ship with an 02 panel but that makes it a lottery. Units now shipped also use PWM which many find objectionable. As well as lower build quality (no full frame, but rather corner braces) which may increase potential for backlight bleed. X-Star is sister company of Qnix and basically make same units with just name plate difference.

comparison old vs new:

Big thread on it @ overclock.net.

Also beware of Qnix models that use the same model no but are multi-input and use VA panels. Its a totally different display which Anandtech and TFT central stupidly reviewed by mistake (apparently thinking it was the same Qnix which generated all the hype).

Much safer bet for overclockable korean panels these days is the Crossover 2795 QHD : http://www.overclock.net/t/1555354/...licker-free-overclock-able-matte-1440p-ah-ips

Took the plunge and ordered the 27" i linked above, figured i mind as well go 27'' as i won't ever go bigger unless its 4k.That won't be for maybe another 3-4 years at least.I kept hearing issues with Text with the 25'' as well, not really a issue with the 27''.

I had looked into the different 27'' panels, this is the single DVI-D version which i hear overclocks well and has less issues usually.I might not do much in the way of ocing but the option is there i guess.:)

Have had good luck with monitors in the past, hopefully this works as well.

For Text usage,i could sit over 3 feet away from a 19'' 1280x800 with DSR enabling a 1707x1067 resolution giving off 105 PPI and ready everything perfectly fine.I tried 1920x1200 which is damn near what a 25'' 1440p panel is ppi wise and it was a pain to read. Between reports and my testing,27'' 1440p should be perfect.

I tried 2560x1600 and its given 158PPI for a 19'',its pretty much the same as a 4k monitor in the 28'' size.Damn hard to read anything with this PPI and i certainly see myself pushing a 27'' or bigger screen a good 6 inches further then where my 19'' sits currently

I only wonder how the hell people can use a 28'' or smaller 4k screen.Scaling obviously has to be the only option.

I run 3440x1440 on a 34" curved screen and I don't think that I'd want to look at text with 1440 on a 27" monitor. My old 27" dell was 1920x1200 and text was very easy to read on it. I'd suggest that you actually look at the monitor before you commit to it so you can know for sure whether or not the text is going to be alright with you.

Keep in mind that 34" 3440x1440 and 27" 2560x1440 are just about exactly the same DPI, one's just wider. I'm personally fine with that DPI. I might be tempted to display things at larger than 100% size on a 25", but a friend with one seems fine without upscaling.

Got the QNIX QX2710 today,i guess i got beyond lucky as i have practically no IPS glow or backlight bleed of any kind.No dead pixels either and sitting about 4 inches further then my 19'' it feels overwhelming yet satisfying to use with no issues with text.

Only complaint is the god awful speakers, easily as worst as something in a tablet if not even worst.Cheap 50w 2.1 system remedied that issue right up.:)The stand wobbles a bit but unless i do the urkle dance on my table really it doesn't shake at all.

Overall it's going to take quite some time to get used to,its out of this world.:D

The above posted 27'' screen is currently $215 shipped, its a pretty solid sale and since my purchase a few more positive reviews have cropped up.I still feel it was worth it at $250.:)

Congrats! It's a very good monitor for the price. I run mine OC'd everyday @ 96Hz and it doesn't skip a beat. I did buy a new stand because the stock stand to me was a wobbly mess.

I ended up grabbing this one - http://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Single-M...qid=1457534571&sr=8-17&keywords=Monitor+stand

It's has some pretty huge legs, but it's height and tilt adjustable. Not too shabby for the price.

Pretty nice stand,i got a pretty solid table so the wobble isn't really there and the height is good enough.I did bookmark that stand though just in case.:)

I may do some overclocking later on but i am just babying it right now,out of the box its been pretty dreamy.

Been reinstalling some older games, replaying them to see how they fare with 1440p.The majority of my library requires a setting or two and the framerate is beyond playable with my 660.I intend on upgrading the gpu later after Pascal drops but for now the 660 holds up.I rarely buy the new blockbuster titles so i have been ok.More into multiplayer based games like Battlefield or GTA V anyways.

Nice one OP. Isn't 1440p nice? Super nice at 27". Congrats!

It's quite nice.I was sitting at 1820x800 before and now i regret trading my 770 for a 660+ cash. The 770 was overkill for such a resolution.1440p i guess pushes the 660 hard enough i finally realized my 660 doesn't have a stable factory overclock, most games ended up cpu limited at 800p but suddenly with a constant 98-99% load the card exhibits instability now.

I guess the cards fall into place just right,i built my wife a rig recently and it has a cx430M which should power the 660 just fine when i upgrade. The G1820 would obviously bottleneck it but with a i3 it should hold up nicely.Shes rocking a GT 740 and it isn't much.

Just switched today from Acer 22" 1600x1050 I bought 10 years ago to Acer 27" 1440p, wish i had done it sooner huge difference. Was worried about reading text since im in my 40s and just started wearing reading glasses for tiny print, no issues much easier on my eyes.

Plug for the Dell P2416D here - just got it last week from jet.com, was $262 shipped with their $30 off first time shopper coupon (now it may be a bit more). Can't see any dead/stuck pixels, brightness pretty uniform, not too much background bleed, very bright.
Pretty happy with it, I was scared off by the reviews of the Acer/ASUS, was not sure about QNIX because I never heard of the brand.

I was looking at the P2416D as well,i found very little to no youtube reviews,no user experience so i was bugged off.It did hit $250 on Amazon and i was damn tempted but right before i ordered,it went back to $300 and nailed it for me.

Glad i didn't go below 27'' on 1440p,the text while readable pretty much is at its limits. Most of my games look at least as good as i think they can once you apply 4x AA.Next to no difference between 2x and 4x but the games that allow AA run fine with 4x.

Looks so damn good i only wonder if 4k is really needed at the 27'' or under size.I see its warrants in the 28''+ when your only options are typically 30'' 1600p and 32'' 1440p panels.
