I thought for sure Itanium would make the list

Actually a surprising diverse set of chips in there. I had no idea that Kodak was making 1.3MP digital cameras in 1991. I paid something like $500 for my first megapixel camera in 1998.

the NAND definitely belongs in there..

they gave a nice history lesson on it.

awesome article. I didn't know digital cameras have existed since 1986 and back then, they already had a 1.3Mpixel digital camera. that's incredibly impressive.

Suffice it to say that they gave us the technology that made our brief, otherwise tedious existence in this universe worth living.
 a little bit of overstatement there?

But it looks like a cool article. I'll have to read it later.

I took that to literally mean a self-reference.

They, the authors of the article, lead such an otherwise tedious existence that without these chips to write about, they, the authors of the article, would have lived a life which was not worth living...I can only guess what else they, that authors of the article, do with their lives so as to merit such self-denigration but I'm not about to second guess the accuracy or the precision with which the self-assessment was delivered

Ah yes, the royal "we". So he feels sufficiently important to refer to himself in the plural, but admits that his life is only worth living due to these 25 microchips.

I think he's confused. ;)

Good read.

It puts some perspective on the digital logic class I'm taking.

Great read. NAND is definitely one of the biggies of the last two decades. Seriously, the world has changed in the last two decades because of NAND flash memory, CCD sensors and the ARM processor, among other things (like LCD technology). Take any of those away, and there goes your blackberry/iphone...
