Youtube video for a "Greatest List"? No thank you. I do know that "I'm walking here!" was unscripted and should be on it though.

"I'm walking here" is near the top of the list. A couple of the actors made it multiple times, demonstrating their intelligence and/or that they're working with good directors.

Interesting list. I had no idea the scene with Matt Damon in Saving Private Ryan when he is talking about his brothers was improvised.

That is actually pretty amazing. Dude was a former drill sergeant IRL - he just flips a switch and starts it up. Fun to watch. Would suck to be on the receiving end, I suppose.

The full story of how he came to be on Full Metal Jacket is pretty cool. From Wiki:

"Former U.S. Marine Drill Instructor Ermey was originally hired as a technical adviser and asked Kubrick if he could audition for the role of Hartman. However Kubrick, having seen his portrayal as Drill Instructor SSgt Loyce in The Boys in Company C, told him that he was not vicious enough to play the character. In response, Ermey made a videotape of himself improvising insulting dialogue towards a group of Royal Marines while people off-camera pelted him with oranges and tennis balls. Ermey, in spite of the distractions, rattled off an unbroken string of insults for 15 minutes, and he did not flinch, duck, or repeat himself while the projectiles rained on him.[6] Upon viewing the video, Kubrick gave Ermey the role, realizing that he "was a genius for this part".[8] Ermey's experience as a real-life DI during the Vietnam era proved invaluable, and he fostered such realism that in one instance, Ermey barked an order off-camera to Kubrick to stand up when he was spoken to, and Kubrick instinctively obeyed, standing at attention before realizing what had happened. Kubrick estimated that Ermey came up with 150 pages of insults, many of them improvised on the spot — a rarity for a Kubrick film. According to Kubrick's estimate, the former drill instructor wrote 50% of his own dialogue, especially the insults.[11]"

One of the best was in beverly hills cop when the director told Eddie Murphy to come up with something for the restaurant scene and Eddie pretended to be the guy's gay lover and need to see him because he had herpes simplex 10 and need to inform him right away. lol

The LOTR scene where Aragon kicks the helmet was semi improvised. He broke his toe so the scream was real.

WTF... no Indiana Jones where Harrision Ford shoots the guy swinging the swords around?

Not really a "line" per se, but awesome nonetheless.

why would a flick like 40 Year-Old Virgin be in that list? Films like that don't have much of a script, as much of it is meant to be improv, anyway.

It's like trying to pick a line from Waiting for Guffman or Spinal Tap that was "an amazing unscripted line!"

:hmm:

^Good observation, Zin.

The list comprised overwhelmingly by classics until you see 40 y/o Virgin on there.

I think it's because these types of comedies/scenes are usually scripted and end up terrible, whereas the scene in question is awesome.

well, they did include an "unplanned explosion" (from The Dark Knight), so that should count, as it's one of the most famous unscripted actions.

also sadly missing: the "candles talk" by Robert Wuhl from Bull Durham.

:D

o_O

don't get me wrong, I chortled at the "gay" bit in Virgin...but it was rather pedestrian in the end.

gah! totally misread your comment. go ahead and put me on ignore! :D
