25 amp quick charge on Motorcycle battery

Girlfriend left her keys on the on position when garaging her bike and I'm pretty sure we all know the result of this. Have a 25 amp car charger in the garage, will 25 amps overcharge/damage a motorcycle battery? They're both 12v, but I'm not sure the resistance tolerance on the 6 cell's in bikes.

Or, would I just be safer jumping it with another bike? Ultimately I'd rather pull one bike apart than two but without a true trickle charger I'm leery about using a 25 amp charge on a motorcycle battery.

Jumping it could kill/damage the charging system. I don;t like using a 25amp charer like that, I rather use a trickle or a little lower one. But if that is all you have then worse case you damage the battery and not a more costly charging system. Just make sure all the cells are full of fluid.

You can safely jump start a motorcycle from a car if the car is off. The car battery has more than enough ooomph to start the bike. Just make sure the car is off.

Google "jump starting a motorcycle" for more info.

Also, invest a few bucks for a trickle charger for future problems.

Good luck and safe riding.

Your GF rides a motorcycle? That's pretty hot. Pics in tight leathers or ban! Lol.

So you have to take the bike apart to get to the battery? I guess it's a crotch rocket style then with a big fairing or shell around it.

Putting a 25a charger on a bike battery could cause an explosion. If you have to, jump it with another bike.

She rides a '08 250 Ninja. Figured it was as good a starter bike as any after she got tired of riding bitch on my '07 ZX10R. Both bikes require disassembling two side panels, removing two plastic bolted on harnesses, followed by the two bolts holding on the seat, and then removing various parts of the electrical harness to even BEGIN to try and squeeze out the battery. Have replaced mine before and would prefer to only do it again if absolutely necessary and I have 45 minutes to burn.

Thanks. I've heard of this but didn't honestly believe it with any seriousness. I ended up running 10amp for about 20 minutes which was enough to turn it and get it going and then I just rode it for 45 minutes to let the alternator do the rest.

Scary as sin driving one of those 250's!

Ever ride a 250 at national highway speeds? (75mph) Throw in a 10-15mph wind and you're hugging that tank in a fetal position.

My KTM book said 1-2a on a 12V charge is high enough.
25a might cook something. I'd just get a smaller charger if I were you and let it sit for half a day.

no more than 4amps on the motorcycle battery.. usual trickle is 1.5 amps.. I charge at 2amp mode. The battery is a 10am/h battery..

You can safely jumpstart with a car battery if you dont have the car running..

edit: you can push start.. put it in 3-4th gear (1st is too tall.. on my bike its 6th gear).. push and release clutch.

So the electrical system charges at less than 4 amps?

On an HD with Heated grips, Heated vest, 3 front lights plus all the rear lights, and FI = alot of juice.

If the stator or alternator can put out more why be worried about 4 amps?

Why not just try bump starting it next time. I've helped other guys do this by giving them a push down the road and then they bump it from neutral to 2nd. Worked fine both times I've done t.
