Don't expect any card released before Doom3 is released to do that.
When Doom3 comes out, I would expect a new set of cards to be coming out from ATI and nVidia.

I doubt that'll happen for a couple of years. Just think how long it took for Quake3 to be played at that level after it came out.

These cards can't even run UT2 at 1600x1200 with all details up (without fsaa/ af) at 60fps average!

Well, UT2 was somewhat rushed as it is. I am really looking at a 5600 Ultra right now, it looks so tastly. Same performence as the 9500 Pro but less pricey I would pay $250 for a 5700 Ultra

i just paid $350 for a 5800 winfast card, haven't received it yet... i like their cooling design
and i can always buy a new card in 6 months or so..

Japan always gets things before we do.. even with Xbox games which is a MS product that is made in the states.

I have a MSI FX5800 on the way to me as well, I was getting bored with my R9700Pro.

I'm glad I didn't wait for the 5900 if they're going to sell the Ultra for $585 here as well. I won't pay that for a VGA that only performs a little better than a $400 9800Pro. (and no better at all for DOOM 3 than the 5800, unless you plan to enable AA/AF and make the framerates even worse)

Anyway, I've read 3 reviews of the new nVidia built FX5800s, every one said they OCd to Ultra levels with stock cooling, and with the new Det FX drivers and no FlowFX, the only thing I can think of NOT good about them is the high detail isn't as fast as ATI.
