Maybe you can recommend to me an example that pops out in your memory of 3:2 being quite noticeably poorer than 24p so I can check it out?
The example I use to test tvs is the opening sequence of my recent favorite show Boardwalk Empire. During the sequence there is a panning shot around Steve Buscemi that really stutters without a proper 24p setup.
Other examples that really stick out to me: the flying scenes in Avatar when they swoop across the screen, the beginning of Wall-E with the shots of the trash towers, in I Am Legend when Will Smith is hitting golf balls from the deck of the USS Intrepid (that one gets used in reviews), a JJ Abrams movie (he LOVES panning shots), or any of those many panning shots in the new Hobbit series.
