$249 is RETAIL, so that's not a good price.

A better price is $249 with FREE 64MB or 128MB CF or $200 without the FREE CF.

Why is this the BEST 2MP "best bang for your buck" digicam in the under $300 category? Well I'm glad that you asked.

These reviews should speak for themself:
PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS
imaging-resource.com (with sample pictures)
dcresource.com (with sample pictures)
steves-digicams.com (with sample pictures)
dpreview.com (97 owner's ratings almost 5 out of 5 stars in every category)

CONSUMER REVIEWS
ePinions.com (100% recommended by 8 reviewers)
Amazon.com (4.8 out of 5 stars with 39 customer reviews)
CNET.com (8 out of 10 stars with 95% positive reviews)

The best deals on the Canon PowerShot A40 can be had from Dell.com, OfficeMax, OfficeDepot or Staples certainly not BestBuy.

The last best deals on the Canon A40 (these are EXPIRED I believe, you snooze, you lose) were:
$212 from OfficeDepot with FREE 128MB CF
$201 from Dell.com
$200 from OfficeMax with FREE 64MB CF

You're welcome. There are several AT'ers who are proud owners of the Canon PowerShot A40 digicam, so far most of them have been VERY HAPPY with their purchase.

RossMan's excitement about this camera pushed me over the edge. It's my first camera, and I'm happy with it.

Its a good camera. We just got one at CompUSA and its purdy good. It may be a little cheaper on the net but shipping will probably be aroun 20$. If you can wait do the net if not just get it localy.

The new Canon S230 looks nice but they're still way to small for me. I think the size of the A40 is just right.

My 2.0megapixel Kodak DC280 ($450 almost 3 years ago) has been stolen so now I must invest in another. Glad prices have reached the $200 mark for the same camera, only better. :)

BMPs are entirely too large at the same quality. It wouldn't be smart to be using BMPs, though I've seen it done. But given the JPG license issue ... who knows anymore? :)
