Not sure exactly why anyone would want to protect my sorry a$$ but I sincerely do appreciate it anyway!

I wonder how many veterans who are proud of their service after the fact experienced contempt for the military life while on active duty. The bull shit regulations, the mindless regimentation, and the imbeciles in command.......

I had nothing but good people in my squadron.

Take your wondering and shove it. My husband devoted more than 20 years to the military and he didn't think the regulations were bullshit, the regimentation was mindless or those in command were imbeciles. He WAS one of the people in command and his men would have walked through fire for him. This thread is about all of them who served and fought selflessly in all the services. It isn't for your disgusting hatred of everything. Talk about contempt - I know where mine lies right now.

I am just grateful that stupid fucking jackwagons like you are quickly culled from the military, if they ever get the fucking balls to man up and actually let go of their momma's apron strings.

I just carefully reread what I posted and I see nothing in my wondering that would imply you can have the feelings I described and still see nothing but food people in a squadron. The military isn't your squadron nor are all military people in it. And I did say that after service is completed I wondered if people don't look back on it and ex put the negatives and view it more positively. I am glad to hear you liked the people you were close to in service. I think the military goes to great effort to develop just such bondage.

When I said I wonder what I really meant was how many know or consciously admit to the feelings I expressed. I have no doubt at all that every service member feels them at one time or another. In fact if those feelings were not express and made known to others the US military would not top class or maybe even the best in the world. Personally, I find sacred cow mentality and worship of golden calves to be psychologically dangerous as they inhibit constructive criticism. You are likely defensive and are out to see anything even rather neutral as a reason to take offense. I am old enough to know how our troops returning from Viet Nam were spit on and being sickened by it. But I also felt that we wasted 55 thousand young men to fight a war in part for a despicable polititian.

Sorry, Bro. Your criticism is wasted on me. I grew up in a military family. My father joined the Navy at the age of 17 and rose to the rank of Commander. He was a communications specialist and instructor and likely the fastest code man on the planet owing to incredible finger dexterity and high IQ. He complained plenty to me about military life and recommend early that I not go in. He also reported suspicious activity around the Pearl Harbor before Dec 7 which fell of deaf ears. He was called back to his ship when the bombs fell leaving my Mom home to repel the rumored ground invasion. Is it for nothing that Military Intelligence is considered an oxymoron? But once he was out in one piece after two wars and providing a high level education and encouragement to think for myself, fighting in Viet Nam for Nixon suddenly made lots of sense to him.

"In my family traitorous socialist scumbag Democrats like you would be worthy of being shot for treason. You fucking hypocrite, worshiping the military and condemning its God appointed leader. Wait till we take over and see what army you join."

Especially to all those life-long buds of mine who helped me stay alive while in the shit, respect. To all other vets, eternal thanks for the service you provided that kept our nation safe and secure from external threats while on your watch.

I'm sure all military people experienced at least a bit of what the OP was talking about...the regulations often made ZERO sense to those of us who had to deal with them...stupid orders passed down from stupid (yet college educated) officers who ay have been book smart...but were dumber than a box of rocks about anything that had to be learned by doing. Was it all bad? Hell no. Sometimes the sense of order was good...led to solid unit cohesion an .kept people going in the same (and often right) direction...other times.....maybe not so much.

Thanks for that. I find it extremely useful psychologically to be able to hold seemingly conflicting opinions at the same time. An incapacity to do so speaks to me of a closed mind. I would personally not value the respect of people who had no option to withhold it nor concern myself with the criticism of those similarly handicapped in the opposite direction.

Thanks again to all who have served. Speaking of 247 years, that reminds me of the math for Marines meme.

This particular thread, on Veterans Day, was not the ideal place to post what you did, no matter how true it may or may not be.
