I am seriously thinking about trading this car once it's repaired and looking at a 428i (or maybe a 328) from a dealer on the other side of town. My wife bought her car from there last year and we have had nothing but great service from them.

Not a bad idea, especially since there isn't an alternative dealer in town. Make sure to contact Audi corp if/when you do that. Let them know you were satisfied with the car (I didn't see that you weren't?) and their help in getting the repair done, but have no trust in dealership.
 
Just like what my GM dealer in Little Falls, NJ did when my reman engine had a big oil leak. I know they probably identified the real cause, but did not want to "eat the warranty repair cost" .. but I brought the car to Hawthorne Chevrolet and they did find the leak and correct, as it should be done, under the warranty. Needless to say, until I move, they do my repair work, as they have been honest and usually, quick to do the job. Now the oil leak did take a few days, but the tranny needed to come out to get to the rear main crank seal, but overall, good time and the leak is now gone.
 
Just an update. I called today to check the status. The dealer hasn't even started work on it yet. They are still 'working with audi' to get 'approval' to do the work.

AKA, audi wants them to eat the cost and they are refusing. I'm calling audi in the morning.

Also the loaner car smells of BO.


Make sure to e-mail them both as well. You want as much in writing as you can. Could be Audi Corp will say dealer did it and dealer will say Audi will not pay so suck it. i.e. may need to sue and you need as much information in writing as you can.
 
Final update. I got the car back in working order. Now to trade it asap.


Take it easy till its gone. My SiL tried to get rid of her Audi and the head gasket started to go out, around 60k I think. I patched it up and she limped it to a CarMax and let them have it.

She has a Lexus now and I have done less work on it in the 2 years she has had it then I did in the first 6months she had the Audi.
 
Friend of mine bought a used Benz 2008 model and just spent over $900 to fix the AC which had electrical issues, including an overheated fuse block and wires. And now another $400 for 2 new rear tires and alignment. Car has a bit over 100K on it. I suggested, in the future, she was better off leasing a car for 4 or 5 years, then trade it in at end of lease. This way the major repairs won't hit, as most cars go 100K before they need serious work. Most people will not put 100K on a car in 5 years and the car would only need routine maintenance (oil changes, maybe brakes and tires) in that time.

Uh, those two sound fine to me. Tires and alignments are needed by every car....
 
Tires, yes, to be expected. But a fuse block overheating and needing to be replaced ? ?
That should never happen on any car.
 
Eh, unless it's a common failure shit happens. Heck, main battery cable/fuse melted on my coworker's MR2 (and I believe jlee had a similar failure).
