1 HP DL380G5 with 64G of ram and dual quad core processors and 8 72G 15k SAS drives.

I'd lose the G5. I just finished getting rid of the last of mine. Power consumption and noise is stupidly high compared to the G6's. Also, shoot me a PM if you've got any interest in an HP Procurve ZL for your lab.

Where did you scrounge up an R810 for a lab? Needless to say, I'm jealous.

Also, yes.

Does he have any more? LOL.

What's the DIMM setup on the G5? I don't know if you've ever felt how hot those FB-DIMM's get when you run it fully populated but it's actually a bit frightening. I had to remove modules from my similar age IBM xSeries as they were passing their thermal threshold (99c) under load and causing the server to lock up. I know most of the time people just go with the cheapest DIMM's on that kind of box, so it's usually like 16x 4Gb DIMM's.

I agree that the G5 is essentially pointless when you have the R810 and DL 380 G6, both of which are much more modern platforms.

Also, I am down to get on this "late model Dell servers for the cost of dinner" train! 😉 If you've got such well-quipped R910s and R810s in there, you're talking about probably $50K+ worth of servers being practically given away.
