Which would you pick out of the following and why?

1) 1992 - 1994 240SX with SR20DET engine and some light mods making 230 - 250HP.
2) 1992 - 1994 Talon/Eclipse/Laser AWD with some light mods making 230 - 250HP.

Which do you think would cost more to do and maintain? I think that the 240SX with the engine swap would be more expensive because of the, well, engine swap, while the DSM would break far more often (although better handling because of the AWD?).
And yes, of course reliability and money is a concern, as well as handling, power, etc!

Well, I think the Talon might be a winner! Why?
'93 Talon TSI AWD: $2093 (Edmunds private seller)
'93 240SX SE: $3643 (Edmunds private seller)

And, that's before any SR20DET swaps. Even if the talon breaks more often, that's a huge price difference. What do you guys think?

Is that US dollars? Thats a hell of a lot. My friend traded his GS-R in about 4 months ago for a 240sx coupe (1991) and he paid less than $2500 for it, perfect condition body-wise.

the price difference is because the mitsus are junk. in addition, anyone that has a turbo that old probably hasn't taken care of it and you'll have to get a new turbo anyway

240sx all the way. If you dont believe me, drive the 240sx BEFORE the engine swap, and compare it to the eclipse. the 240sx is just more fun to drive, and with an SR20DET? puhleeeeez.

i would say the 240 with the SR swap..thats actually what I'm doing right now. cept' the thing wont start :disgust:

you planning on doing everything by yourself? or giving it to a shop?

personally, i think the 240 would be more fun to drive(DRIFT!!) and well, a SR would be faster with the turbo..

anyways, let me know what you go with, and if you need help(if you choose the sr) let me know :)

edit- you doing the S13 engine?

I've never driven an Eclipse, but I have to say that I don't think I would give up drifting for any AWD car with hp short of 300.

I'd rather have the 240sx though I would probably just turbo the 2.4l thats already in it. The DSM would be a hell of a lot cheaper though. You can probably make your 230-250hp with nothing more than a couple hundred dollar free flowing exhaust and a $10 grainger boost controller.
