2407WFP - anyone found a fix for 1600x1200/1280x960 yet?

Just wondering if there are any custom drivers or powerstrip profiles to fix the problem that the Dell 2407WFP has with 1600x1200 and 1280x960, forcing the monitor to stretch the image across the entire width of the display and not enabling the options to scale the image. I just got my 2407WFP (A02) today and I'm happy with it except for this one problem...my main concern is wanting to be able to play games that don't support widescreen modes in a native resolution (1600x1200) with black bars on the side, rather than having to switch to a lower resolution like 1280x1024 in order to play.

there isn't a 1:1 scaling ratio on the monitors OSD???
Also what games are you playing that you can't get widescreen working?
Have you checked the
Wide screen gaming forums? they have pretty much all games imaginable and a way to hack widescreen.

Basically, the monitor does have 1:1, 4:3, or Fill options but you cannot choose aspect ratio options in any resolution with a vertical height of 1200 pixels. It automatically just fills the screen.

It's not an issue I'm having with any specific game at the moment...when it comes to some games not supporting widescreen, I'd rather just run them in 4:3 rather than going to the extent of hacking exe files and such. And if I'm going to run them at 4:3, I'd rather use 1600x1200 with black bars on each side because that IS the monitor's native res. nVidia's drivers can do this apparently...ATI's can't. I've got an X1900XT.

Weird I do it just fine with my Dell 2405 with an ATI card with 1600x1200.

In the old Nvidia CP:
nView Display settings (top one)-> Device Settings (bottem right) -> Device adjustments

You should be able to choose how you want the monitor to scale there.
Not sure if it'll work on your monitor though, also not sure in ATI.

Wouldn't 4:3 work? I think I remember reading that is actually the aspect ratio option they just stupidly labeled it 4:3 for some reason.

Weird...

the nVidia control panel should be able to handle this. Sounds like you are trying to change it through the monitor... bad idea.

The 2405 can do it...the 2407 can't. :( I think the monitor is basically seeing [res]x1200 and just saying, "oh, it's a vertical res of 1200 pixels, it must be 1920x1200" and disabling the option. I can't choose any scaling options at 1600x1200; they're all grayed-out.

Unfortunately ATI is behind the curve when it comes to video scaling options. I think that the way nVidia does it is that it takes the source image, scales it, and adds the black bars before sending the image to the monitor. So 1600x1200 would be sent to the monitor as 1920x1200 with black bars on either side, in effect bypassing the monitor's scaling completely. That's what I want ATI to do. I'm this close >< to selling my X1900XT and going out and getting a 7950GX2 at this point.

Yes, it's quite capable of doing so in games. I've heard of bugs with aspect ratio scaling, but I use it just fine on my 7900GT.
