up until recently ive been using a dell 1900fp (samsung 191t) 19" LCD i bought 3 years ago. with all the great deals i splurged and got a 2005fpw and a 2405fpw ... knowing that i would be at least returning 1, possibly both.

i admit i used to be a big samsung fanboy so i had the 2405 favored in my mind already.

when i got both monitors, you really need to see the 24" in person as it is bigger in person than in pictures. im sure youve seen lots of pictures of each of the monitors so i wont go into detail.

my conclusions thus far:

backlight:
24" wins by far here, its blacks are blacker, and its whites are brighter (with max brightness) although the white is not as true white as the 2005fpw.
the 20" as you may know has some backlight issues, at angles other than straigh on it gets a bit of a red sheen etc.. its really not as bad as it sounds.

crispness:
kind of by suprise, but i always considered my 19" to be crisp and so is the 24" ... but the 20" really makes you see each pixel, its that crisp. plus the truer white of the 20" makes the contrast and crispness that much better. in games like wow the edge of my character without any AA is very sharp with the 20" but on the 19 and 24 the edges seem a little muddied.

color: here is where i was really shocked, when i first turned on the 24 with the 20 right next to it, i was like ... why is it so washed out. it seems like the monitors default gamma is just TOO high. i could control it for the most part in the ATI control panel by moving the gamma to .75 (1.00 is default) and it did look better, but never had the saturation the 20" did.

eveness: the 24 is BIG, and i think a little too big, this panel has pretty poor angle of view, and you seem to notice this just using the lcd, since the monitor is so large the angles to my eyes become more extreme and i notice some areas of the monitor darker and brighter, just as if you were to rotate the monitor away from you. what am i saying: i notice washing out of color like you would notice with poor viewing angle with just regular use (its not extreme but noticable). while the 2005fpw's backlight has very poor angle of view as far as reproducing solid black, it is very good and very even with great color saturation for all color that arent full black (unless your watching a movie with the lights out you wont notice the black problem much).

also when watching movies on the 2005fpw in the dark, try turning the brightness down, it really helps with the red sheen.

overall: both monitors have downfalls, but personally im shocked to say i prefer the 2005fpw ... and its the 2405fpw that is going back.

*all monitors were run in native rez on DVI connectors off a ATI X800PRO
