2405 has developed a strange buzzing problem

This is the damndest thing. I just noticed a buzzing coming from my 2405 tonight and decided to reset the settings to see if that helped. Nope. Then I reset my 7800GT's setting. Nothing. Turns out, the noise only goes away when I crank the brightness to the max. Anything below starts the buzzing again. I'm wondering if anyone's had a similar problem, or a fix? Or do I just have a lemon?

Never heard of such a thing - I have a 2005 and not a 2405 though, and I probably wouldn't hear anything under my 4800RPM CPU fan anyway, lol :p

Modulation of the CCFL backlight? That happens with my crappy cheap lamp light. It buzzes horribly when it's not all the way up. I think lights have to do something which produces that kind of noise to dim themselves. I never hear it in my LCD (not a 2405 though). Perhaps yours is defective.

I would give dell a call... see if you can change it out... possibly leading to a premature backlight death?

I figured as much. I just thought I'd try and save myself the hassle of a 2 hour call with someone who I can't really understand.

Seems to be a common issue with 2405s. Now, Dell is great for replacements, but did you purchase it within the last 30 days? I think you are not garaunteed a new unit (you may get a refurb) after the 30 day period, but I have heard of people still getting brand-new units; the warranty is excellent. However, being that it is a common issue, you have to ask yourself if its worth it all just to get a monitor that has the same issue or even moreso. If your 2405 is very good otherwise (no or very few dead pixels, good even backlight, etc), you might end up with a replacement worse than your original. So hell, to me if the thing is perfect otherwise and you can set it to 99 brightness with no buzzing, I'd just roll with that.

Also, if you want to contact Dell, I recommend the Dell chat. I used it 3 times and everytime was great. At least if you are talking to a foreigner that is hard to understand, it is much easier to get what they are saying when it is typed (their English typing seemed fine to me, and all of them had foreign names).

I was thinking about that but this thing is driving me nuts. Good call on the chat, I might have to give that a try.
