2400+ or 2500+.. that is the question.

The 2500+ is about 25% more expensive than the 2400+.. But has twice as much cache. Although from what I have been able to gather the 2400+ will most likely overclock better.

I am currently running an ASUS A7V333 with a T-bred A @ 1750 mhz (166 mhz bus).

I want a quick and effortless switch to a processor that overclocks well. I don't wanna fiddle with unlocking the cpu or stuff like that.

I am leaning towards the 2400+ because with the *15 multiplier I will be able to get speeds of up to 2500 mhz just from upping the fsb, right?

Ofcourse the cpu probably won't be able to handle that, but there is headroom multiplier wise.

Does anyone have any opinions on this? Plese let me know if you do any information is highly apreciated!

I have both running 2350 mhz, 12.5x 188, 1.85vcore. One in a KX7-333, the other an 8K3A. The 2500 does Seti in 2:18 averages, the 2400 in 2:21 averages. Both bench roughly the same, edge goes to the 2500. Up to you if the $25 is worth it, and you have the ram and mobo to supoort multi adjustment.

OK. .thanx both. I am not sure I will be able to get the voltage to 1.85 volts on the a7v333. I think It only goes to 1.7 volts or something like that.

According to the database over at oveclockers the 2500+ average overclock is 2284 mhz and the 2400+ is around 2350 mhz.

I am not using many heavy applications or games. I just want my puter to get a little snappier in windows. Plus I haven't bought any new hardware this year and I am getting desperate for.. something!!!!

I multitask a lot. Does anyone know if there has been any testing of the multitasking performance of the Barton vs T-bred yet?

I Run applications like Dc++, IE, ICQ, Dvd burning software and sometimes I encode DIVX in the background.. Those things I want this new processor to handle as fast and smooth as possible..

Any input is welcomed.. thanx!!!

;) Unless you're scared to o/c go for an XP1700+ - XP2100+ TbredB. All TbredB and Barton are always unlocked, it's the dumb mobos that are at fault if it appears locked which is common with CPUs using the higher multiplier table (XP2100+ - XP2400+ & XP2600+ 266FSB).

VCore will not be a problem-the A7V333 automatically puts "normal" vcore settings in, and evidently 1.7v is their highest...There is a jumper to disable this. The VCore can get pretty high.
