2400+ 2600+ to hit stores in september...eeeh

Just blew up my MOBO/CPU... I need new one =D, I'd really take that 2400+

But how long will I have to wait for it!!!
My source from AMD.com and some other site.. all says that we will be able to buy 2400+ and 2600+ IN SEPTEMBER

So my question is the following :
Would anyone have something more precise then... "in september"
 
my local store here in the UK told me to expect the 2400+/2600+ around 30th september. if ur in the US expect it maybe mid-september (2 weeks before). prices should go down towards the end of the month tho.

does anyone else have more precise date???
 
I hate having to wait..
I personnally think the 2400+ worths waiting, and maybe wait the 2 weeks it would take to drop prices, but....

This is endless, I would be waiting until almost october

This would mean after waiting for the 2400+ I'll be like "whoa I'm gonna wait for the barton!"

For a while there were places on pricewatch with Sept. 14th preorders. They are no longer there. Now there are two companies left that have preorders. One company says October 1st as an estimated time of arrival, the other company says October 7th. This is turning into the same ordeal with the throughbred lauch in March. Sure it was launched in March, but no one got their hands on one until June.

The Inquirer article you linked mentions 333 MHz fsb XPs available on October 7th, and it mentions Bartons. There is nothing in that link that even comes close to implying Bartons will be launched October 7th - instead it specifically says:
"Barton cores, at 2800+ and 3000+, will also use the 333MHz FSB...there will be Thoroughbred 333MHz samples for qualification during this month...volume Thoroughbred 333MHz availability is slated for October...AMD will launch XP supporting 333MHz FSBs by October the 7th, at the latest"
This makes me think 333 MHz Thoroughbred will be launched in October, not Barton. Then if they follow their recent paper launch, I'd expect to see these chips late November.

Should I just wait for the 2400+ and buy it as soon as I can?

For now it's the best idea I can have

(btw I live in canada, 2400+ should be available at the same time then in US, right?)
 
I've never ordered in Canada, but I think they can get the chips at about the same time. However it always seems like Canada is behind in the price cuts.

Are you going to overclock? If not, I really don't think the 2400+ is worth $55 (US) more than the 2200+ so I'd just get one of those today if I were you. If you are going to overclock, the 2400+ seems like it has great potential and I'd wait if you can. But that means another 5 weeks minimum without a computer.
 
First off, are you sure it would be a 50$ USD more?
The price chart on AMD website says 10$
This is one reason why I wanted to wait for the 2400+, because it doesnt seem very expensive then a 2200+.

and yea I was actually interested into overclocking
I was thinking about buying an EPOX 8K5A2+ with nice PC2700 Samsung memory and volcano7+ hsf, witch IMO would have given me some nice potential
 
i think the xp 2400+ is worth the extra money. previously a boost in ratings of 200 would equal a 133MHz rise in clockspeed. but as a one off, there is a 200MHz boost instead. plus it runs colloer. so i would splash out for the extra. or wait 🙁

Sorry I was comparing current $145 price on the 2200+ to the lowest preorder price of $200 on the 2400+. The first few people to buy a chip always pay a premium. You mentioned that you wanted the chip as soon as possible, so you would be one of those premium buyers. If you wait 2-3 weeks after the 2400+ release, then the final street price will be close to $10 different.

This is why paper launches are terrible ideas - it makes the consumers quite unhappy.
 
Ok now what do you think of this idea :

Buy a 2200+ now
And in a few month, go for barton upgrade @333mhz bus speed (or even stay with the 2200+, after all it's not that bad)

But if someone tell me... "hey 2400+ will be available next week" I'll forget the 2200+ idea 😀


Damn, a 2ghz AMD.... my dream goes away 🙁 sniff
