I've read people having problems from using an adapter for a 20pin psu to a 24pin psu. are there also problems when using an adapter when using a 24pin psu to make it a 20pin?

DFI and Chaintech dont reccomend using an adapter. I have a friend who does and has no problems.

With 20>24 pin I would be a little worried

With 24>20 pin you have nothing to worry about.

I think you can buy an adapter for a molex connector and fit it in the 4 pins left over...

No, the first 20 pins on a 24pin PSU are identical schmatic to a standard 20pin PSU. Basicly these new PSU's are 20 pin but extended with 4 extras

I recomend the PC Power and Cooling version adapter.

An adapter like this just does not have any thing connected to the last 4 pins other than that they have the same voltage going through the firts 20 pins.

Wich way are you trying to go? Btx to atx or ATX to BTX, you are conflicting your self.
IF you Have a 20 pin PSU and need a 24 then do not use an adapter
If you have a 24 pin PSU and a 20 pin Motherboard then it is ok to use an adapter.
General rule for everything technology related is you can always down convert, but not up convert.

Enermax is junk, for the best bang for the buck. dollar for dollar the PC Power and Cooling Silencer provides better performance than the noisetaker. Enermax rates their PSU's at unreasonable temeratures, so when It gets hot the amount of current avalable decreases.
Enermax rates theirs at 20°C while PC power and cooling rates their PSU's at 50°c and their for can put out more power when the going gets tough.

Just Call them in the morning and tell then you want one with a 24 pin motherboard connecton, its avalable as a custom option.
470watts $99
cont. power=470W
peak power=520W

well, i just ordered it, so I guess I'll just have to live with it. I don't plan to overclock or anything so hopefully it'll be ok.

Thats good to know that you won't be compromising your system for cheap thrills. The quality of the power supply is a major factor in many pc computer problems and is often the first one that is overlooked. Start with a quality unit and never really have to worry about it much ever again.

If you change your mind in the next few min, it is still possible to cancel your order before it gets shipped out tomorrow.

Dont worry about it, Enermax is a great brand. And no offense to this forum, but everyone here is a PSU nazi. Like OMG if you don't buy a $250 PC P&C psu your computer is gonna blow up, lets face it, usually a better PSU yields 0 in performance gains.

Yep, Kinda of true! They are all PSU Nazi's! I have been a proponent of a good PSU for at least a decade, long before the trend caught on. A junk unit will cause BSOD, Reboots, Crashes, ETC; But as you said wont make it any faster, but will keep it running longer and trouble free where stability is king (it's why i dont overclock and use intel motherboards).

The PC Power and Cooling Unit I recomended cost only $99, not bad for a qualty budget unit and far less than the $800 redundant PSU they used to sell. the most expenisve one they ofer now is around $400 for a 950 watt 24pin PSU (customizeable)

It's been said before, but Price - Performance - and Reliability are a triangle, and you can't have all three. The Enermax is not the one I would pick, but it's a good compromise in that price range. Just be sure in the future not to load it up with a too many hard drives, fans or "super power video cards." It will work, but it's not Micheal Jordan.
