24" Soyo LCD $177.86 LOCAL only, 1 display model

I thought I would post this but since there is only 1 unit the opportunity to take advantage of this deal is extremely limited to say the least.

The OfficeMax on Katella near Valley View (Garden Grove) has a 24" Soyo Topaz (1920x1200) LCD demo model priced at $237.15. There will be an additional 25% off taken at the register (confirmed by employee).

It was their display/demo model and it wasn't hooked up so I can't say anything about problem pixels or backlighting issues. It does come with the manufacturer's 1 year warranty.

There was a 20" HP LCD sitting next to it marked at $198 (I think) so I suppose that would have another 25% taken off at the register as well. It was also a display model.

Good luck.

Nice, it's near where I work too. Glad to see another fellow ATer. It's probably a TN panel though.

Too bad they apparently went TN with this. I have the M-PVA version purchased a year ago and it's fantastic.

They switched over from P-MVA to TN on the Topaz model.

But if it's a display model, there's a decent chance it's an older one that's still P-MVA. Given the number of hours it's probably been on displaying a static image though, I'm not sure I'd want it even at that price.

Anyone who has been around anandtech long enough knows the truth about soyo.

That they don't pay their rebates, which has nothing to do with their monitors?

Think Yugo. Then think Soyo Motherboards. Enough Said.

You ever buy a Soyo monitor? I've got a 20" sitting right in front of me, no dead pixels and looks great.

I said what I said based on what they did in the past.

Oh my gosh.

My 24" P-MVA is still going strong.

I would NOT get the display model though. I visited 2 Office Max's, one of them had 2 out on display, and both had multiple horizontal lines of dead pixels.

My guess is thermal stress-- ROHS solder sucks, electrical components just don't last as long with it. People think the techies that designed this stuff in the first place were being all destructive to the environment on purpose, trying to release lead into the environment etc...no, they really chose to add PB to it because it DOES make it that. much. better.
Wave soldering is a lot more difficult with it, soldering with it by hand might as well be torture when you're trying to re-seat a chip.

Anyways, that guess doesn't hold up because technically mine should break before the display unit-- power cycling 2x every day or more should be plenty of PCB expansion/contraction, enough to break a bad solder joint.

I knew what I was getting into when I bought this though; coming up on the 1yr I think; after this I've got the 1yr with Mastercard and/or the 2yr $30 warranty I got.

I am familiar with neither; I'm assuming they were bad yes?

Still got my P-MVA as my main and still going strong. Got mine from the original original deal when they were $300 coupled with a $50 off coupon = $250 OTD. The monitor is great. My only gripe is the base which does not have a lot of movement options.

Probably one of the best buys in computer technology that I have ever made. This at the time when typical 24" monitors were selling for over $600.

Still lovin's my P-MVA Soyo - bought it the first few days it came out for $299, almost 18 months ago. After seeing my Soyo LCD, 2 of my cowrokers also went out and bought them - they are all working fine. I've also had good luck with Soyo motherboards, although my experience with their motherboards goes back to the Pentium 3 days...

I owned I think 2 Soyo motherboards in the past. Never had any problems with them.

My P-MVA Soyo 24" Monitor is beyond doubt, the best purchase I have ever made in all my computer years. After a year and a half, it continues to amaze me with its near perfect performance.

I have the P-MVA Soyo Topaz, also got it when OfficeMax had it for $300. Beautiful monitor and no ghosting or lag that I can detect in FPS games.
