This is not the same as the 24DYLM24D6 sold at officemax. I don't know the panel type for this one.

Based on the apparent high rate of defects for the 24D6, you'd be crazy to buy this online instead of from a local vendor.

Good catch..

What's the problem with the OM unit? I have purchased 3 of the Soyo 24's at OM and have not had any issues.

The specs for both units are on Soyo's site:

The D4

http://soyo.com/product/search...de_TFT_LCD_Monitor/517

The D6

http://soyo.com/product/search...de_TFT_LCD_Monitor/408

Looks like the D6 is rated at 500nits brightness and the D4 is at 300, but the dot-pitch on the D6 is larger at .285 vs .27 for the D4.

I have mine set at 50% brightness and would not want any more, so I would have gone for the D4 if I had a choice...

All 24" 1920x1200 widescreen monitors have a .27mm dot pitch.

Let's do the math:
Sqrt(1920^2 + 1200^2) = 2264.15 diagonal pixels
2264.15 diagonal pixels * .27mm dot pitch = 611.32mm diagonal.
611.32mm / 25.4mm/inch = 24 inches.

A 1920x1200 monitor with a .285mm dot pitch would be 25.4" diagonal.

In the past, with analog tube monitors, dot pitch meant how blurry a given resolution would look. Higher monitor sizes and lower dot pitches both meant a sharper image.

With a digital display panel, dot pitch is directly proportional to the size and resolution. It's like squares on a graph paper - to fit a certain amount of squares on a given size sheet of paper, each square has to be a certain size, no more and no less.

The first unit I brought home from office max was defective with a solid horizontal line of stuck pixels across the entire screen. The second one was perfect, and I love it.

I have seen many reports of this and other defects in the threads about this monitor here and elsewhere. I would hate to have to exchange an item of this sort through the mail.
