Day 5 starts and ends at 7:00 a.m. Eighteen months after Day 4, (September 2007) Jack is living under a new alias, as Frank Flynn. He is currently living with Diane Huxley and her son Derek, a family near the Mojave Desert, California. Meanwhile, an unknown figure orders the assassination of the only four people who know Jack is alive ? Tony Almeida, Michelle Dessler, Chloe O'Brian and former President David Palmer ? as an attempt to frame him. He returns to L.A. to clear his name, when a hostage situation erupts. It is soon realized that this was only a diversion by a collaboration of conspirators and Russian separatists to obtain 20 canisters of Sentox VX nerve agent. The gas was originally to be used to attack Moscow, but the separatists begin to release it in L.A. in retaliation after they discover a U.S. agent has infiltrated their organization. Jack attempts to search for the remaining canisters and expose treachery that goes deep within the White House.

- from wikipedia

why did they frame jack again? and what agent infiltrated their organization? and what happened to the president? didn't he just get hurt and was in the hospital? and why did the vice president want a Russian separatist group to use the gas in Russia?

why do i forget all this lol

... Did you watch the season?

- Framed Jack because it was easy to and Graham and his buddies were behind it all.
- The agent who infiltrated CTU was some "technician" they brought in who had the nerve gas.
- What president? Logan? He was implicated in the conspiracy the final episode of the season. Former president David Palmer? Assassinated first episode about 3 minutes in...
- Keeler was president during Day 4 and he was hurt (and presumably killed) in an airplane crash. That's when Logan took over.
- A lot of people wanted the gas to be used in Russia to make it known to the US to divert more resources (troops, intelligence, etc.) to that region of the world for (as we find out in Day 6) oil.

No, they rigged the cannisters so they could detonate them remotely. The plan was to wait until the seperatists had the cannisters at one of their big camps and them set them off, killing lots of terrorists AND giving them an excuse to put more resources into that part of the world for oil and all that.

thanks... some more questions:

"but the separatists begin to release it in L.A. in retaliation after they discover a U.S. agent has infiltrated their organization"

who was this?

and they would get more oil out of this how, presumably?

they discovered Nathanson (the guy with the bluetooth headset in darkness during the first few episodes) was in fact a traitor and were ordered to kill him.

the fact that the terrorists were enraged and then began to plan the release of gas INSIDE the US actually has nothing to do with the secret oil plan; the idea that the terrorists would figure out the betrayal and also attack them was unexpected.
