The specs for the motherboard I am looking (ECS P4m8000Pro-M) at says it has a 24-pin atx power supply connector and a 4 pin atx 12v connector. The power supply in the case I am looking at has a 20 pin main power connector and a 4 pin cpu power connector. It seems that most of the power supplies I see have this setup. Do I need to specifically look for a PS with a 24 pin connector?

You need a 20+4 or 24 power supply. If it just has 20 pin and a 4 pin CPU connector, that's not good enough. You need 20+4 and another 4 pin cpu connector
