I have a 24pin PSU and need it for a 20pin mobo....I also need to convert the 8pin to 4 pin but I can manage splicing those if I have to, is anyone able to help me out?

I think you are getting in way over your head. Swapping AT and ATX power supplies involves way more than plugs. I would hate to see your mobo go up in smoke.

You probably have a proprietary power supply, one that was designed to be used with a specific motherboard (ie; Compaq). I had the opposite problem - a motherboard (Compaq) that needed a 24-pin PS. The pin-outs CAN be found, but even then, re-wiring the connector can be a lot of work, and it's possibly only a 180-235 watt power supply. Short version - it's not worth it.

well it's an antec 510watt PSU, so it's a nice PSU that's why I want to salvage it, It's meant for the Tyan thunder K7 and the Iwill MPX....does that help at all?

Dont go trying it base on what I say, but usually the 4 extra pins can hang over one side of the mobo connector and everything else is getting what it wants. Do you have the pinout for your powersupply? Go to formfactors.org for info on regular PSUs.
Here is a link to the atx spec. Compare yours to those on page 28
