24-pin PSU

Hey.

I'm looking for a 24-pin psu. But I'm sort of on a budget. Anything less than $70 would fit my budget. I don't need a really high-wattage PSU, becuase I'm only running an X300, Athlon64 3000+, and 1 GB of RAM.

Do you already have a sufficient 20-pin PSU? You usually don't need the 24-pin connector to run a 24-pin board--just use the 20-pin and leave the 4 new pins blank.

If not, try an XClio (Channel Well; makes Antec and Enermax PSUs), Seasonic (is an OEM for PCP&C Silencers), or Fortron (is an OEM for many). Tagan's good too.

I'm running a 3.4GHz P4 model 550 on an Intel 915PBL board with only a 20-pin Antec 380S with an X300. My board is also a 24-pin that is backward compatible. If I can run a power hungry P4, I don't think you'll have problems with your A64.

For most circumstances (and this is "most circumstances") the whole 24-pin PSU thing's been blown a bit out of proportion. You're fine with a 20-pin and no adapter; just make sure you line up Pin 1 so you don't have the wrong wires matched up.

Eh.. this is my first build, I don't want to mess anything up :s. I've read reports about people frying their boards and 😱 burning smells.

Besides, the case I've chosen has no power supply, so I might as well go with an atx 2.0 😛

I have a Seasonic Super Tornado 350W on a 8KNF-9 MB which has a 24pin connector but also has a 4 pin plastic plug allowing use of a 20pin connector and it works perfectly fine.
