24-pin PSU compatible with 20-pin motherboard?

Hello,

I have an Asus P4P800 non-Deluxe version and am currently looking to replace my old generic power supply unit. However, most modern PSU now has 24 pins but my motherboard has only 20 pins. Will these 24-pin PSU compatible with my motherboard? If not, please recommend me any reliable 20-pin PSU that will work with my motherboard.

Thanks,
Tim

On any good power supply the last 4 pins will slide out for you on their own separate connector.

I've even had a few crappy generic ones that had the 4 pins slide out.

So I would say that it's very likely those last 4 pins will slide right off there.

you can get any 24pin PSU and just get a 24->20 pin adapter. but, most new PSUs will have the last 4 pins snap off as others have said.

How do you snap em out? And do you really even need to? Couldn't you just leave em sitting there next to the other pins?

it will still power the motherboard, but when the system requests heavier loads, it could possibly destroy the PSU. 24-pin PSU's are built to help support the 24-pin inserts, thus far required. but not all 24-pin PSU's are nearly as powerful as some of the 20-pin PSU's. you get something over 50 bucks, and you should be fine for the most part.
