24 pin PSU - 20 pin motherboard

It looks like there's no space in there for the extra 4 pins. What's this about adapters killing motherboards?

Also, there are only 5 connectors for IDE drives and I need 6, including the DVD drive. Can it cause a problem to use an adapter to change one power cable into two?

I don't know about adapters killing motherboards. I'm using a 24 to 20 pin adapter and it's working just fine.

Using a molex splitter should be fine... just make sure you get a decent powersupply to handle the number of devices you're going to use.

Thanks, on another thread about this, somebody was saying the adapter killed their motherboard and others thought it's best to do without them.

Oh, and what does molex mean? I know what it refers to, I'm just wondering why it's called molex.

Hi, Molex is the name of the Manufacturer of connectors. Commonly, all plastic connectors of that type are Called "Molex". Some of the Asian copies are pretty bad. Jim

Were they talking about 24pin to 20pin adapters or 20pin to 24pin adapters?

Adapters in power lines provide extra opportunities for high (and by 'high' I mean anything much over 0 Ohms) resistance points to occur. Better to let the extra 4 pins hang over the end if there is room. If not, you will have to use an adapter.
