This is the gaming computer for son and me... possibly going to a 24" monitor from the 20" Dell 2001FP we have now...

And whether I get the... HP2475w, the BenQ G2400WD, the Dell 2408WFP, or the Samsung 2493HM, will I be able to do the 1900x1200 if we have a EVGA nVidia GTX280 video card? See rest of rig specs below...

Thx...

GTX 280 should be able to run most things at 1920x1200. I'm using a slower GTX 260 at that resolution with everything turned up playing Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4 and World of Warcraft. Since the latest patch, WoW actually has the worst frame rate - go figure! Still playable though, just choppy in some places.

Be carefull selecting your monitor as there seems to be quite a few 23"/24" monitors that do 1920x1080 resolution instead of 1920x1200. If you want the extra resolution then you need to read the specs carefully.

Our specs are pretty similar, my GTX280 is slightly overclocked. I run everything at 1920x1200 on my Dell 2407WFP with vsync on.

Crysis - Very High with no AA/AF, still gets choppy in intense scenes
Demigod - Everything max with AA/AF, no problems
Fallout 3- Everything max with AA/AF, no problems
GRID - Everything max with AA/AF, no problems
Test Drive Unlimited - Everything max with AA/AF, no problems
Bioshock - Everything max with AA/AF, no problems
TF2 - Everything max with AA/AF, no problems
L4D - Everything max with AA/AF, no problems

So basically Crysis is the only game I've encountered which is choppy at max detail 1920x1200 and I can't use AA/AF on. I still completed the game on those settings because the graphics are amazing.

Your video card and a 24" monitor will very likely be no problem.

Are you going to do only gaming or planning to do such thing like high-end picture editing? because this will mostly depend what monitor will best fit your needs.

I am looking for a 24" as well and can note some experience what people say about some the above monitors.

The Dell 2408WFP may looks great but for some it got some over saturated colors and also red glow around fonts, especially on dark background and input lag is about the worse you can get. Some few feel it a bit disappointment and return it. IMO I don?t think it worth the extra money.

The HP 2475w seems to have the best colors (by all of them) and cheaper but there is mixed saying whatever if it is fast enough for gaming. (Hold me a little away from pull the trigger on this one.)

BenQ G2400WD is properly the best bet by gaming with lowest input lag but it won?t perform or have the same viewing angles like those above because it?s TN panel

Samsung 2493HM, Can?t help you much there, but I only know it?s TN.

Btw all of them can do 1920 x 1200
Correct me if I'm wrong

Yup, they all do 1900x1200...This rig, as I said above, is for gaming. It seems the best for that is the BenQ.

I just was not positive that I could run at 1900x1200....

My GTX 280 does my 2560x1600 just fine...

Obviously not maxed for many newer games, but it does perfectly for the games i mostly play (UT3, GRID, various Sources titles).

n7...

I can't even imagine playing COD-MW, or especially COD-WaW, at that resolution on that 30" monitor... WOW

Would lag be a problem w/ that monitor in fast-action FPS games?
