Alot of the 'newer' 24" lcds only have a native resolution of 1920x1080 (16:9) instead of (1920x1200 16:10).
Why have manufacturers done this?
 
There are two standards for screen aspect ration currently in the TV world - 4:3 and 16:9. 16:9 is the current "letterbox" standard. 16:10 is an oddball screen.

Monitors are now used for HDTV - manufaturing standards dictate more efficient production. Monitors also have simiar standards for XGA and WXGA, etc. In these economic times it makes no sense to produce odd ball LCDs - they are usd in both TVs and monitors.
